ABSTRACT

Glycemia also known as blood sugar levels is the measure of glucose

concentrated in the blood. Glucose is glycogen. Glucose levels are usually lowest in the

morning before the first meal of the day and rise after meals for an hour or two. No one

expect a growing childs blood sugar levels to be normal all the time. And when children

enters puberty, their hormones could cause problems with blood sugars changing

wildly, Diabetes may be caused by a combination of genetic or environmental.

In this study, we aimed to identify potential relationship between foods and their eating

time and to see wheter associations may vary by diabetes status.

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Blood sugar (glucose) is the primary fuel source in the blood that supplies energy

to every cell in the body, When people eat a food containing carbohydrates one into

sugar, which enters the blood. As blood sugar levels rise, the pancreas produces

insulin, a hormone that prompts cells to absorb sugar for energy.

Blood sugar, or glucose, is the main sugar found in your blood. It comes from the food

you eat, and is your body's main source of energy. Your blood carries glucose to all of

your body's cells to use for energy.

Diabetes is a disease in which your blood sugar levels are too high. Over time,

having too much glucose in your blood can cause serious problems. Even if you don't

have diabetes, sometimes you may have problems with blood sugar that is too low or

too high. Keeping a regular schedule of eating, activity, and taking any medicines you

need can help.

If you do have diabetes, it is very important to keep your blood sugar numbers in

your target range. You may need to check your blood sugar several times each day.

Your health care provider will also do a blood test called an A1C. It checks your average

blood sugar level over the past three months. If your blood sugar is too high, you may

need to take medicines and/or follow a special diet.

DEFINITIONS OF TERMS

Blood sugar (glucose) found in the blood. Also called glycemia glucose comes

from the greek word "sweet" it's also a type of sugar you get from food you eat, and

your body uses it for energy, as it travels through your blood stream to your cells, it's

called blood glucose or sugar. The bodies maim source of energy. In general foods that

cause blood sugar level to rise the most are those that are high in carbohydrates which

are quickly converted into energy such as rice, bread, fruits. Next are foods high in

protein, such as meats, fish, eggs, milk and dairy products.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The conduct of this study, it can help to monitor the effect diabetic medications

on blood sugar levels that are high or low. Diabetes rates are rising in young people,

Early detection and treatment in children and teenagers can improve their health and

wellness throughout life.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

LOCAL LITERATURE

The Philippines has a very low physician to household ratio. Although there were

more nurses available. The Philippine government health care insurance philhealth,

provides benefits for diabetes related admissions. This is a government corporation that

aims to ensure universal health insurance for all Filipinos. Limited medications were

included in the coverage for diabetes, namely only the metformin, provided on a

monthly basis. Additionally, most city government also have city health centers, which

are called barangay health units.

Diabetes awareness month is celebrated every July with activities nationwide,

including many forum events. The Department of Health also reserves every fourth

week of July calendar for Diabetes Awareness Campaign.

Archaeological evidence of papermaking predates the traditional attribution given

to Cai Lun, an imperial eunuch official of the Han dynasty (202 BCE – CE 220), thus the

exact date or inventor of paper can not be deduced. The earliest extant paper fragment

was unearthed at Fangmatan in Gansu province, and was likely part of a map, dated to

179–141 BCE. Fragments of paper have also been found at Dunhuang dated to 65 BCE

and at Yumen pass, dated to 8 BCE.

"Cai Lun's" invention, recorded hundreds of years after it took place, is dated to

105 CE. The innovation is a type of paper made of mulberry and other bast fibres along

with fishing nets, old rags, and hemp waste which reduced the cost of paper production,

which prior to this, and later, in the West, depended solely on rags. (Wikipedia, 2019)

Diabetes exerts a major impact in third world countries, particularly in the number

of people with diabetes by 2025. Diabetes care in the philippines is disadvantage and

challenged with respect to resources, government support and economics. Thus most

patient rely on "out of pocket" expenses, namely laboratory procedures and daily

medications.

More over, behavioral modifications are difficult due to culturul preferences for a

traditional diet of refined sugar, including white rice and bread. It is expected that

diabetes will continue to appear Filipinos in the next century with increasing economic

burden not only for individual families but also entire nation.

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

Experimental research design was used in this study to compare analysis of the

relationship between eating and blood sugar level with different time intervals among

teenagers ages 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 of Mapayapa Neighborhood Association of

Consolacion St. Sampaloc Tanay, Rizal.

Experimental research design is especially useful when you want yo test how different

factors affect a situation.

SUBJECT OF THE STUDY

The subject of this study were teenager ages 13 14 15 16 17 a resident of

Mapayapa Neighborhood Association at Consolacion St. Brgy. Sampaloc Tanay, Rizal.

The Subjects will undergo blood sugar test before eating breakfast, 2 hours after

eating breakfast and before sleeping at 9pm using Glucometer. It involves pricking the

skin usually a finger with a lancet to get a blood sample, applying the blood to the test

strip before inserting it into the glucometer set. The result usually show on the screen in

10-20 seconds and it will be recorded to analysis and evaluation.

RESEARCH PROCEDURE

Insert a test strip, with the printed side facing up, into the test port of the

Glucometer. Push it all the way in until it goes no further. The meter will turn on

automatically and beep. Then the code no. and the blood drop icon will appear. Make

the code number display on meter are the test strip code number match.

Obtain a blood drop from the fingertip using the lancing device. The blood sample must

be atleast 0.5 micro liters in volume (actual size) Before puncturing gently massage the

fingertip.

To obtain a round drop of blood to the side edge of the yellow window of the test

strip and then blood drop will be observed into the narrow channel. Touch and hold the

blood drop to the side edge of the yellow window of test strip until blood completely fills

the conformation window and the meter beeps. Then the meter will start the countdown.

Precautions are blood should apply to the finger symbol on the test strip as directed. Do

not put blood on the top of the test strip. Apply the blood drop to the side edge of the

yellow window of the test strip. If sufficient blood is inserted, Error message will be

displayed. Even meter begins the countdown despite the fact that the confirmation

window is not completely filled, do not apply more blood to the test strip. Discard the

test strip and repeat the test with a new test strip. if you do not apply a blood drop with

in 5 minutes the meter will turn off automatically.
