Japan

We had landed, I grabbed my bag and got off the plane. The moment I
stepped outside, the harsh cold bit into my skin, making me hug
myself tight. The air felt crisp and refreshing, a major contrast to the
constant humid weather of Singapore. As I looked towards my right, I
found myself awestruck at the sight of the blazing orange ball of light
rising in the sky. It was then I knew without a doubt that I had finally
reached the land of the rising sun, Japan.

We landed in the airport of New Chitose, and then from there a

journey to Niseko continued by train. We quickly got tickets and
caught the next train. I settled next to a window. The train made a
rumbling sound and took off. I gazed out the window, and saw tiny
houses all around, each built with a similar structure, covered in
blankets of snow. As the ride progressed, the scenery slowly shifted to
a forest, the kind of one which you could only imagine in fairy tales,
where all around you could see trees and plants covered in snow,
creating an enchanting landscape. The train hissed and came to a
screeching halt. I got off the train and breathed in the beauty
surrounding me.

We booked a taxi, which came in about fifteen minutes, and started

our journey towards the hotel. When we got out of the car, tiny white
dots were pouring out of the sky, it was snowing! I made my way
toward a pile of snow on the ground and picked some up. It was soft
to the touch and felt like powder. There were snowflakes everywhere,
each one I saw unique in its own way. We entered our hotel and got
the keys to our room. The room was very cozy and had a spectacular
view of the snow outside. Later we went to a restaurant for dinner, the
night scene was quite different from the day. It was rather peaceful
and quiet compared to the busy daytime. You could see the stars
twinkling in the sky and snow falling around us made it even more
magical.

As we entered the restaurant, an aroma of different spices and foods

hit us, I knew then that this would be some of the best food I would
ever try. The food there looked delicious, and tasted just as good.
When we finished eating, we thanked the chef for the food and paid,
then we left. We went back towards the hotel, ready to finally relax
and turn in for the night after today’s long and tiring journey. The bed
was like any other hotel bed, soft and comfortable. The moment I laid
down on bed I took off to dreamland. This first day proved that the rest
of the time I spent here would be just as good and I could not wait to
get up and explore this new and enchanting place more.
