**Project Title: Design Your Dream Home - Geometry Composite Figure**

**Project Overview:**

In this project, high school geometry students will unleash their creativity by designing their "dream
home" using a composite figure made up of simple geometric shapes. The project involves combining
various polygons to create an intricate design while adhering to specific guidelines. Students will graph
their composite figure, calculate its perimeter and area, and present their unique dream homes to the
class.

**Objectives:**

1. Apply geometric concepts to create a composite figure.

2. Use properties of polygons to determine angles, side lengths, and coordinates.

3. Calculate the perimeter and area of the composite figure.

4. Present their designs and mathematical findings to the class.

**Materials:**

- Graph paper or digital graphing software

- Rulers

- Protractors

- Calculators
**Project Steps:**

1. **Design Your Dream Home:**

- Students will brainstorm and sketch their dream home designs, incorporating various geometric
shapes such as rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms.

- The design should include at least 20 vertices and should be visually appealing and balanced.

2. **Break Down the Design:**

- Students will identify the basic geometric shapes within their design and label their vertices.

- They will plan the composition of their composite figure using no more than 4 line segments with no
slope or undefined slope.

3. **Graphing the Composite Figure:**

- Using graph paper or graphing software, students will plot the vertices of their composite figure
based on the coordinates they've determined.

- They will connect the vertices using the allowed line segments, forming the final composite figure.

4. **Calculations:**

- Students will calculate the perimeter of their composite figure by summing the lengths of its sides.

- To calculate the area, they will divide the composite figure into recognizable polygons, calculate the
area of each polygon, and then sum up the areas.

5. **Presentation:**

- Each student will present their dream home design to the class.

- They will explain the geometric choices they made and how they combined different shapes to create
their vision.

- Students will showcase their calculated perimeter and area values.

- The class will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
**Assessment:**

Students will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

- Creativity and complexity of the dream home design.

- Accuracy and precision in graphing the composite figure.

- Correct calculations of perimeter and area.

- Clarity and effectiveness of the presentation.

**Extensions:**

For advanced students or to provide further challenge:

- Introduce concepts of interior and exterior angles of polygons.

- Explore irregular polygons and their properties.

- Incorporate more complex polygons like trapezoids or kites into the design.

**Note:**

Ensure that students have a solid understanding of geometric concepts, including properties of polygons,
coordinate geometry, and area/perimeter calculations, before assigning this project. Provide guidance
and support as needed throughout the project.
