MEMORANDUM
To : All Students and Graduands

Date : 19th January 2024

Subject : OVERPAYMENT IN STUDENT FINANCIAL ACCOUNT

Some students source scholarships from multiple sponsors including the Higher
Education Students Loans and Grants Board resulting in overpayment in their
students’ accounts. Such students request for the overpayment to be transferred
into personal bank accounts for their personal use or transferred to another
student’s account. The University does not support this practice and can not be
used as a conduit to have multiple financial sources.

Kindly be informed that the institution has no mandate to transfer any

overpayment into a student's personal account or another student’s account
without consent from the sponsor. Continuing students under the Loans Board will
be allowed to do the bonding process of the difference required for that specific
academic year.

Students who have completed their studies but have an overpayment are advised
to return the overpayment to the Loans Board by writing the Executive Director of
the Loans Board through the Directorate of Student Affairs using the following
address:

The Executive Director

Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board
P. O. Box B417
Capital City
Lilongwe

Through: Director of Student Affairs – MUBAS

In the letter, indicate how much is being returned and for which academic year.
The letter should be sent to the Directorate of Student Affairs at MUBAS by 29th
February 2024. The University shall process all overpayments and return the funds
to the Loans Board for students’ records to be updated.
