IJCE SPECIAL ISSUE - CALL FOR PAPERS

GIFTEDNESS, DISABILITY, GENDER AND WELL-BEING IN HIGHER

EDUCATION: A SOCIO-PSYCHO-PEDAGOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Guest Editor: Dr Marcin Gierczyk, Institute of Pedagogy, Faculty of Social Sciences, University
of Silesia in Katowice (Poland)

The focus of this Special Issue is to consider recent research on giftedness, disability,
gender and well-being in higher education. This Special Issue will publish original peer-
reviewed articles written from the disciplinary perspectives of pedagogy, psychology,
sociology, educational and social sciences in general. It aims to facilitate further
understanding of students’ well-being and promote the improvement of educational ‘good
practice’. This Special Issue has a particular focus China and Chinese higher education in
particular. A healthy university environment, which could be defined as one that celebrates
academic, athletic, and artistic achievements by its students, plays a key role in developing
students’ creative expression (Kay, 2001). This can assist in fostering student achievement,
as research suggests that if universities do not meet their students’ individual creative as
well as academic needs this can lead to underachievement (Betts et al., 2003).

Keywords: Chinese higher education, gifted and talented students, well-being, university effectiveness,
mental health, legislation, psychological development, disability, gender

Papers can be empirical or theoretical and include: literature reviews, case studies of individual
universities, reviews of methodological issues in the field, or theoretical perspectives on
effectiveness and improvement.

IJCE is particularly interested in material on such topics as: university and academic staff
effects on the academic and social development of students, the attributes and characteristics of
‘effective’ methods at university, areas of educational practice in university that matter to
students’ well-being, general theories explaining problematic issues relevant to giftedness,
disability, gender and well-being in higher education from a multi-cultural perspective, and the
effects of the pandemic on students’ wellbeing in education.

This IJCE Special Issue is intended to enable the community of scholars, policymakers, and
practitioners to consider the latest thinking on these issues.

The deadline for manuscript submissions is 30 November 2022.
