Materials and tools:
1. Cotton blend yarn Alize Cotton Gold (yardage 330 m / 100 g [361 yds / 3.5 oz])
Main colors: Black 60, White 55, Orange 83, Pink 518.
For the hat two matching colors, such as, red and whiteй; blue and green; blue and
light blue.
For the sock: Red 56, Green 126, White 55.
2. Crochet hook 2 mm [US steel hook 4, UK 2½].
3. Polyester fiberfil for stuffing.
4. Safety eyes, diameter 6 mm [0.24 in] – 2 pieces.
5. Soft pompom ball, diameter 15- 18mm.
6. Tapestry needle with a large eye.

Abbreviations used:
AMR – adjustable magic ring;
st(s) – stitch(es);
ch – chain;
sl-st – slip stitch;
sc – single crochet (US);
inc – increase (2 sts worked into the same stitch);
dec – decrease (2 stitches crocheted off together);
hdc – half double crochet (US);
dc – double crochet (US);
tr – treble crochet (US);
blo – work through the back loop only;
flo – work through the front loop only;
(sc, inс)... times – repeat instructions in parenthesis.
Numbers in parenthesis at the end of a row or round indicate the stitch count after
completion of the row or round.

Finished size:
The finished toy will be about 9 cm [3.5 in] tall. The sock is about 7 cm [2.7 in] tall.
The height of the composition is about 13 cm.

Little penguin
Head and body (worked in one piece from the front to back)
Will be great if you have two balls of black yarn. If there is only one, either prepare
a small ball of yarn in advance or use the other end of the current ball.

Begin with White yarn. Stuff as you go.


Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (18)
Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (24)
Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (30)
Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) 6 times (36)

Change color to black.

Round 7: blo – 1 sl-st each into every stitch (36)


Round 8: blo - (5 sc, inc) 6 times (42)
Round 9: (6 sc, inc) 6 times (48)

Place crocheting the body aside for a short time.

Join new working yarn in Black to the unused loop of the first stitch of Rnd 7 and
work around: 15 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc,1 hdc, 15 sc. Cut the working yarn and
secure the end. Using black yarn sew two middle treble crochets to the white part
of the head as if continuing these crochets by 2 rounds towards the center. Using
orange yarn embroider the beak as shown in the picture. Insert the safety eyes on
the same level as the beak line. Using pink yarn embroider the cheeks. Take up the
body again.

Rounds 10-15: 6 rounds total – 1 sc each into every stitch (48)
Round 16: (6 sc, dec) 6 times (42)
Round 17: (5 sc, dec) 6 times (36)
Round 18: (4 sc, dec) 6 times (30)
Round 19: (3 sc, dec) 6 times (24)
Round 20: (2 sc, dec) 6 times (18)
Round 21: (1 sc, dec) 6 times (12)
Round 22: 6 dec (6)
Put more stuffing. Pull the remaining opening closed, and hide the tail inside.

Wings (make 2)
Worked in Black yarn.
Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR (6)
Round 2: (1 sc, inc) 6 times (9)
Rounds 3-4: 2 rounds total – 1 sc each into every stitch (9)
Don’t stuff the wigs.
Fold the piece in half, and crochet the edges of both layers together with sc.
Cut the yarn, leaving an end enough for seaming.

Paws (make 2)
Worked in Orange yarn.
Crochet a chain of ch2.
Work into the 1st st: 2 hdc, ch1., sl-st, ch1, 2 hdc, ch1., sl-st.
Cut the yarn, leaving an end enough for seaming.

Tail
Using black yarn work into an AMR: (ch2, 1 bobble*, ch2, sl-st) repeat 5 times.
Tighten the magic ring firmly. Cut the yarn, leaving an end enough for seaming.
*Bobble - work 3 unfinished dc’s into the same stitch and crochet them off
together.

Hat
Begin with Color 1.
Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) 6 times (18)
Round 4: 1 sc each into every stitch (18)
Round 5: (2 sc, inc) 6 times (24)
Round 6: 1 sc each into every stitch (24)
Round 7: (3 sc, inc) 6 times (30)

Change to Color 2.

Round 8: 1 sc each into every stitch (30), sl-st in the next st., turn work.
Round 9: ch3, dc into every back half loop.
Cut the yarn, leaving an end enough for seaming. Fasten off.
Sew the soft pompom ball on the top.

Assembly and finishing


1. Sew the wings, paws and tail.
2. Sew the hat on the head, adding a little fiberfil inside it before closing the hole.

Begin with Red yarn.
Round 1: 6 sc into an AMR (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) 6 times (18)
Round 4: (2 sc, inc) 6 times (24)
Round 5: (3 sc, inc) 6 times (30)
Round 6: (5 sc, inc) 5 times (35)
Round 7: 1 sc each into every stitch (35)
Round 8: (6 sc, inc) 5 times (40)
Round 9: 1 sc each into every stitch (40)
Round 10: (7 sc, inc) 5 times (45)
Round 11: 1 sc each into every stitch (45)
Round 12: (8 sc, inc) 5 times (50)
Rounds 13-18: 6 rounds total – 1 sc each into every stitch (50)
Round 19: without breaking the yarn, ch25, attach the chain to the middle of the
round on the opposite side, counting 25 stitches to the left. Crochet remaining
25 sc along the edge of the sock. Start the next round along the chain.
Rounds 20-22: 3 rounds total – 1 sc each into every stitch (50)
Change color to White.
Round 23: 1 sc each into every stitch (50)
Change color to Green.
Round 24: 1 sc each into every stitch (50)
Change color to Red.
Rounds 25-27: 3 rounds total – 1 sc each into every stitch (50)
Rounds 28-29: 2 rounds total - BLO 1 sc each into every stitch (50)
Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Heel
Join Green yarn to the back of the heel opening. Crochet sc to the first corner,
crochet 3 sc together in the corner, continue to crochet sc along the heel,
crochet 3 sc together in the second corner. Work sc to the end of the round.
Change color to White and crochet the heel with sc in a spiral, making decreases
of 3 sc in the corners, until 14 stitches remain.
Cut the yarn, leaving an end enough for seaming.
Sew the hole, hide the tail inside.

Topside embellishment
Join new working yarn in White to the unused loop of the first stitch of round
27th. Beginning here, ch3, 1 sl-st in next st. Work two rows up the line in this
manner, always chaining 3, and attaching the chain to every loop with a sl-st. Cut
the yarn and fasten off.

Put fiberfil inside the sock to keep it in shape and place the penguin.
