Questions 21 – 25
Read the article about a book called The Secret Garden, then answer the questions.

For questions 21 – 25 circle A, B or C.

‘A Secret Garden’ by pupils of Stamford Junior School

Molly
I like this book because I couldn’t guess the ending! It was really hard
for me to put it down. And I like stories about people who lived a long
time ago. I saw the film after I read the book, but I didn’t enjoy it very
much. I prefer reading, and in the story, the girl was kinder. She was
quiet and clever too, like my best friend.

Kurt
I like stories about modern life more than ones that happened a hundred
years ago, like this one. It’s all right, but I haven’t finished it yet. Mum
took me to see the film at the weekend. I like seeing films because
reading long stories is sometimes boring. I didn’t like the part when the
other children laughed at the girl and made her cry.

Nathan
Reading this book was quite hard but my favourite bit was when the girl
made friends with the boy in the garden. His name’s Nathan, like mine! At
the beginning, the girl had lots of problems and that part made me
unhappy, but there’s a happy ending. I’d like to go and see the film. I’ll do
that when I’m better. I’ve got a cold today.

Questions 26 – 30

Read the text about a visit to the Museum of London then answer the questions.
For questions 26 – 30 circle A, B or C.

My visit to the Museum of London

My name’s Ben Brewer. I visited the museum of London for the first time with
my friend, Jake, and his parents during my school holidays. Lots of other
families were visiting the museum when we were there. But there weren’t too
many people so we could see everything easily.

There are several floors in the museum. On the top one, you can learn about
the very early years of history and on the lower floors you can find out about
later history. First, we went upstairs to the area of the museum about the Great
Fire of London. We’ve had lessons about it at school, so we found it very
interesting. But for me, the downstairs rooms were the best. There was a street
there that you could walk down. It was made to look like one from about 150
years ago. In this street, an actor dressed as a fruit seller told some brilliant
stories about life in London at that time.

At lunch time, we ate our sandwiches in the ‘lunch area’ at the museum: a large
room with lots of tables and chairs for visitors to sit at. Some people were sitting
outside in the garden, but it was too cold for us. There was also a restaurant at
the museum, and we had a drink and a cake there at about three o’clock. We
went home at four o’clock. We were at the museum for five hours but the time
went really quickly.
