Explain.
When Lucie put her arm around the old man and held him, he took
some golden hair and looked at it and then he looked at Lucie's hair.
He found that the two lockets of hair are the same. He thought that
Lucie was his wife but she was too young.
9. After Charles Darnay had told Dr. Manette about his feelings
towards Lucie, Dr. Manette returned to his old prison work of
making shoes. Explain
Dr. Manette loved his daughter very much. That love was the
greatest thing in his life. He thought that Darnay would come
between him and his daughter and they would be separated
because of Darnay.
10. The idea of sacrifice came to be clear when Carton told Lucie
about his love. Explain.
When Mr. Carton told Lucie about his love, he knew that she was in
love with Mr. Darnay, so he asked her not to tell anyone about what
he had said. And she should know that he could do anything for her
or for anyone close to her. He could give his life to keep someone
she loved alive and close to her.

Lucie said these words to Mr. Lorry and Mons. Defarge. She felt pity
for her father who had lost his memory and was treated with

child grows up to be a man, then he gets married and has children of
his own. These children grow up and become men etc….
He wishes his days would be linked together with his love for nature
and respect for God and religion.
