Recent developments of piezoelectric motors with

diverse operating principles
Basudeba Behera & Harshal B. Nemade

A detailed review of the developments of piezoelectric motors based on thier working principles is presented in this
article. The review is carried out for ultrasonic motors and surface acoustic wave motors using resonant vibrations
of piezoelectric substrates. The article begins with a discussion on low frequency piezoelectric motors followed by
ultrasonic motors and surface acoustic wave driven piezoelectic motors. It is shown that the light weight, quick
response, non-magnetic properties, and high precision response of the piezoelectric motors make them useful for a
broad range of sophisticated applications.

Sensitive and selective detection of copper ions

using low cost nitrogen doped carbon quantum dots
as a fluorescent sensing plateform

This article reports a facile, single step microwave assisted synthesis of nitrogen, oxygen-doped carbon quantum
dots (NCQDs), having an avergae size of 4 nm, which demonstrate many fold increase in the intensity of
photoluminescence over the undoped carbon quantum dots. The remarkably enhanced PL properties of NCQDs
have been employed as fluorescent probe for sensitive and selective sensing of Cu2+ ions with limit of detection as
low as 1.8 M. The authors propose that these synthesied NCQDs can be used as a bio-imaging agent.

Review on optical, structural and electrical

properties of ZnTe thin films: effect of deposition
techniques, annealing and doping
Harinder Singh, Tejbir Singh & Jeewan Sharma

In this review article, the research reporting on the optical properties like band gap, refractive index and
absorption/transmission spectra, structural properties like crystallite/grain size, lattice constant, and electrical
properties like resistivity, activation energy, carrier concentration and hall mobility of Zinc Telluride (ZnTe) thin
films is collated. The authors found that the doping methods affects these properties and annealing enhances the
optical, structural as well as electrical properties on ZnTe films.

Performance of non-uniform cantilever based

piezoelectric energy harvester
Debesh Kumar Sahoo & Ashok Kumar Pandey

The voltage, current and the power output versus frequencies at different external loads for uniform and non-
uniform beams with linear and quartic variations in widths of a cantilever beam based piezoelectric energy
harvesters are obtained and reported by the authors. It is reported that the diverging beam with tapering parameter of
0.6 can produce an enhanced power output by 3833% as compared to that of uniform beam. It is also shown that the
resonance frequency and the peak voltage of the frequency response function of the piezoelectric energy harvesters
having an array of two coupled beams increase with increase in coupling length.

Ultrasonic guided wave sensitivity of piezopolymer

films subjected to thermal exposure
Vivek T. Rathod & Anjana Jain

This paper discusses the loss in piezoelectric performance of piezopolymer film sensors like PVDF, and P(VDF-
TrFE) and P(VDF-TrFE)/ZnO nanocomposite thin films due to thermal exposure. Spectral analysis of wave motion
in a bar and sensitivity to the ultrasonic Lamb waves in the polymer films were studied to show the loss in
sensitivity. Based on the findings, it is suggested that PVDF and nanocomposites can be used for applications
involving temperatures up to 120 and 90 C, respectively.
