The Open
Chapter 1
As Willow looked into the shallow pool of water in front of her, her heart skipped a beat. I cant move! She thought. Willow just stared at the water in horror as she fell into it, her eyes wide. The last thing she heard before plunging into the water was her heart beating as fast as lightning hit the ground. With a jolt she awoke, her chest heaving. She fell back, her head landing softly into her pillow, Why does the dream add a little bit each time? she wondered aloud, her bright blue eyes still wide from the shock of her dream. Even though this had frightened her, she felt herself yet again being dragged into sleep. Yet again, Willow found herself falling into a pool of water. But when she hit the water, there wasnt a splash, yet, the water had pulled her into another world, in front of her lay a small golden egg, shining brightly. You must go to where land, air and water touch a voice said, its voice soft, and hard to hear. When Willow awoke, she felt full of energy, like she could run forever. She ran downstairs in her pyjamas, her dark brown hair up in a bun that was pressed firmly against her head. She looked around; no one seemed to be awake, none the less home. She tilted her head, but just shrugged and ran back upstairs, quickly; she got dressed, then ran outside. Although she felt this energetic, the voice still boomed in her head, like a headache, but this one wasnt going to go away until she did what it wanted. Hesitantly Willow began to think of where land, air, and water touch. She looked over at the mountains, where the faint sound of the waterfalls were. Maybe? she asked herself, before beginning to run towards the mountains. I cant go alone though. She said under her breath, as she turned, and ran to her friends house. Hi Mrs. Neer, is Taylor home? Willow asked, hands on her knees as she breathed heavily. Mrs. Neer nodded her head, and then looked back into her home, Taylor! Willows here! she shouted. Seconds later, Taylor was zooming down the stairs, causing a rumbling noise to start, but it soon stopped as Taylor ran outside and looked at Willow. Whats up? Taylor asked, looking curiously at her friend, who seemed to be frightened, nervous, but also excited. Ill tell you on our way, but weve got to get David, hes going to come too. Willow said quickly, Taylor nodded, and followed after her, Be back later mom! she shouted at her mother as she followed quickly after Willow. Soon after getting David, Willow had began to told them about her strange dreams, and by the time she finished telling, they had made it to Ravens Point, one of the mountains that the river flowed through. I think we have to go into the river. Said Willow, looking down at the rushing water, just like her dream, she started to feel sick. David and Taylor looked at each other; they too felt sick to their stomachs. Suddenly, all three found themselves falling towards the water. To Willow this seemed exactly like her dream, but to David and Taylor, this was terrifying. When Willow opened her eyes again, she saw the egg from her dream, Good. You listened to me for once Willow. Said the voice

from her dream. Did you hear that David? Taylor asked him, he nodded in response, now staring at the strange egg. Take care of the egg, all of you, its the last of its kind found anywhere right now, and its youre duty to look after it, especially once it hatches! the voice said, before a world started to show around them, it was like a jungle here, but so much warmer, Willow picked up the egg in her arms, it was burning hot, but she ignored that, she had to do what the voice said, it was probably the only thing that knew how to get David, Taylor and her back to their home. Willow looked at them as they stared at her blankly, In order for the egg to hatch, you must take it to volcane. Said the voice, its tone harsh as it said the word. But where is that? Willow asked, looking around, The egg will lead you. The voice said, its voice sounding as if it was breaking up over a phone. Willow looked at the egg, I wonder what will come out of this she muttered, the heat of the egg didnt bother her anyone, but strangely, she felt like her whole body had flames dancing inside it. Making her stomach turn upside down, and having a strange excited feeling. Taylor blinked as the egg began to glow, when Willow turned it a certain way. Willow! Stop moving! The egg glows when you turn it to the east. Taylor said, moving Willow so she stood facing the east, the egg glowing a bright reddish blue colour. Willow looked at the egg, Whoa- I guess thats what the voice meant when it said the egg would guide us. Willow said, feeling the pain from the heat on the egg again. Okay, then wed better get going then. Taylor said, they started to walk, but looked back at David, who seemed to frozen in place. Strangely, he started to glow, and formed into a small griffin like creature. Taylor and Willow looked at each other, and they to slowly formed into one too, Seriously?! shouted Taylor, her eyes angry as she let out a small huff. Willow looked at them, Is it only me, or do you guys feel hot too? she asked. David and Taylor cast glances at each other then looked at Willow, Willow, youre on fire, you kind of look like a griffin mixed with a phoenix. They both said at the same time, Willow stared blankly at them, What? Im on fire? she screeched, looking at her feet- no- her paws. Fox-dung! I am on fire! she yelled. Waitdid I just say fox-dung? she echoed, she shook her head, Willow! Never mind that! Wheres the egg?! yelled David and Taylor at the same time. Willow looked around, the once large egg, had become the size of a duck egg, and it seemed to be in a pouch on her stomach. It also seemed to be letting off a purring sound. Willow blinked, looking back at Taylor and David, who just stared back at her evenly. Well- obviously I think we need to get this egg to Volcane. Taylor said, starting to walk off the direction of east. Unlike Willow, she and David had the front half of a bird, front legs of a raptor, and the back end of a lion, and large wings on their backs. I thought griffins were big. David muttered, his face disappointed looking. Oh, Griffins are, but you two are a smaller breed of Griffin, while Willow here is a Phenin. A voice said, and it sounded fairly close, but also sounded very childish. Whos there? David asked his front raptor claws and his back lion claws digging into the ground. Me silly.

Frozen Fire
Chapter 2
Me silly. The voice said. The three of them looked down. Standing right there was a small fox looking creature. What are you? asked Willow, hiding the egg, the feather like fur on her stomach covering the top of the egg. I am a Phryne. The creature said. It

looked like a white fox, but it claws were like cats, and its tail was like that of a lizards tail. Its fur was feathery, and had flecks of brown and black in it, along with what seemed like bangs covering its right eye. How do you know my name? Willow asked, He he. Long story, but I can tell it in a short version. Being a Phryne, we can learn someone's name just by how they act. It said, licking one of its non-retractable claws with a blue snake like tongue. Then what are their names? Willow asked, her lion tail pointing towards David and Taylor, who just stared at the Phryne with round, curious eyes. David, the Phryne pointed directly at him, then looked over at Taylor, And that one is Taylor. It added, holding its head high. All three of them looked at it in awe. Okay, thats right but whats youre name? Taylor asked, My name? My name is Prin. It said, letting out what sounded like a purr. Willow narrowed her eyes, What else do you know Prin? she asked it, That you carry the Phenin egg. Prin said, creeping under her stomach, and uncovering the egg slightly, Willow let out a hiss like sound, witch almost sounded like a roar. Already she is attached, thats good. Prin said, creeping into the middle of the three again, I am here to help you. Prin added, its tail seemed to quiver. Prin, I have a question, are you a boy or girl? David asked, let out a huff, frosty mist coming out of his beak. I am a girl. If I was a boy, I would have short, spiky hair. Prin said, her fox ears twitching. Suddenly, the group started to shake; the egg seemed too slunk further into the pouch on Willow. Willow looked at the egg, then at Prin, We should go, now! squeaked Prin, wings sprouting from her back, and flapping wildly. David, Taylor and Willow looked at each other fearfully, before lifting off the ground quickly. Once high in the air, they looked at Prin, Whats wrong? they all asked at once. Prin looked at them, her eyes wide with fear. Grimly she looked down at the ground, down there, staring up at them was a huge creature, which looked exactly like a hyena, but it was pitch black, with red markings. A Helena, theyll kill anything, and eat anything. It had smelt that egg of yours. Prin said, just before the Helena let out a loud, very high pitch, scream like roar. They all covered their ears except Prin, whose ears just seemed to lay flat against her head, Willow, let out you're roar. Prin said, looking over at her. Willow looked confused, but did what told, she looked down at the Helena. She took a deep breath, and then let out a huge roar, that seemed to shake the ground under the Helena, causing it to fall; her roar just got high pitched as she roared again. The Helena screeched loudly, then turned and ran. David and Taylor were covering their ears, Whoa they both said, before looking at Willow. We must get that egg to Volcane, before it is too late. Prin said, flying back down towards the ground. Hesitantly, the gang of 3 followed after Prin, their feathery ears laid right back against their heads. Prin, why are we so small? Taylor asked. We are small because we have just begun, over time, we grow. We already have grown. Prin responded. She was right, all four of them had grown, they were almost the size of a baby horse. Oh- okay. Taylor responded, smiling at David, thankful that they didnt stay small forever. About two hours of walking, the small gang had grown yet again, but not by much. But they werent the only thing to grow, the egg in Willows pouch had grown aswell, but it was still quite small. Willow, are we still going the right way? Prin asked, looking back at her. Willow nodded slowly, but then suddenly felt the egg go cold, Its cold all of the sudden. Willow murmured, Prin let out a slight gasp, pulling the egg out of the pouch slowly, she looked at Willow, Breath fire on it, if it goes cold, that means itll die if it doesnt get fire breathed on it, thats why you have to stay lit on fire Willow. Prin said

quickly, Willow let out a huff a fire, and it lit the egg on fire, Willow pushed it back into her pouch, and lit herself on fire, it felt burning hot again, aswell it was letting out what seemed to be purring. We should rest here the right. I can get some food. Prin said, flying off in a jagged line, her long, now fluffy with feathers tail weighing her down slightly. Willow laid down, the egg rolling out of her pouch, she pulled it towards her, and curled around it, lighting herself on full fire as she slowly fell asleep. David and Taylor lay beside one another. David let Taylor fall asleep, staying up to keep watch in case some other carnivorous creature came and tried to have them for diner.
