Title Credit: Fields of Hope by Rie Tanaka.

Uchiha Madara wasn't one people would call approachable.

His very presence was intimidating, overwhelmingly so.

Hashirama was the only one who regularly spoke to him.

Even then, that was because Hashirama was... well, Hashirama.

There was no other way to describe the man.

Hardly anyone else dared to get too close to him for fear of his wrath.

So, why...

Why was this woman trying to hold a conversation with him?

She was so cheerful and friendly.

It wasn't an act just because he happened to be there, and she happened to see him.

She appeared to genuinely want to talk to him.

It was baffling.

Chapter End Notes

I have far too many unfinished stories, but this idea popped into my head, and I just
couldn't get it out.
Chapter 2

The main thing Madara noticed about her was how open she was.

The woman wore her heart on her sleeve.

It was easy enough to tell in the one encounter he had with her.

The only explanation for it was that she wasn't a shinobi.

A shinobi would have a better grip on concealing their emotions.

That gave him pause, because Hashirama came to mind after that thought.

That wasn't always the case.

But even Hashirama could hold himself as a shinobi when it was needed.

This woman didn't seem capable of that.

Foolish and annoying were words that came to mind.

But if she was so annoying and foolish, why did he find himself wondering when she'd run
into him again?
Chapter 3

The next Madara saw her, she nearly ran into him.

She was quick to apologize, but he shrugged it off.

He'd never admit that he let it happen.

He could have easily avoided her or dodged her.

But then there wouldn't have been a reason to talk to her.

To his surprise, she didn't immediately rush off.

Why should I care if she stays?

It was just asking how he was at first.

He couldn't remember the last time he was asked that by someone who wasn't Hashirama.

Actually, he could.

It was her the last time he'd seen her.

He was alright, and she said she was doing good, because it was beautiful day.

Something so trivial could make her happy, especially in a time of conflict and war?

HIs surprise at her answer must have been obvious, because she was soon answering the
question of his thoughts.

She wanted to enjoy the little things in life, not only focusing on what was bad in the world.

The encounter helped him learn more about her.

He even knew her name now.

Iyashi Noa.
Chapter 4

It became a routine whenever Madara ran into her.

When he wasn't busy and on his way to take care of something, at least.

Noa chattered away about whatever came to mind.

The weather, whatever she'd been reading, previous conversations she had, dinner.

Normally, people who talked so much got on his nerves.

Perhaps it was because people didn't often talk to him.

Not that this fact bothered him

He'd rather be left alone than bothered.

But not with her.

There was something about her that put him at ease.

He found himself beginning to forward to her greetings.

Despite how he kept telling himself she was annoying and foolish for being such an open
book.
