SPEECH WRITING - A SAMPLE

Q. Media has a strong hold on society. Write a speech on how media

influences public opinion to be delivered in the school assembly.

Answer:

Over the last two decades, the influence of media has grown exponentially. We trust
the media as an authority for news and information.
Good Morning! Respected Principal Sir, worthy teachers and my dear friends.
I, Sonam/ Suyash have come before you all to talk about media’s strong
influence on public opinion.

Media is a powerful weapon in any democracy. It keeps people abreast with the
recent changes and development in the society and the world. With the development
of better methods of communication, the influence of media has increased. Media
includes a range of sources, for example: magazines, internet, television; books and
radio etc..

Society is influenced by the media. This not only helps public to get information
about a lot of things but also makes them form opinions and make judgement
regarding various issues. Media limits the thinking capacity of people and affects the
youth in the society who lack in experience and sometimes blindly believe in what
they see or hear. And many times, the news covered is over-exaggerated and
sensationalized and this diverts public attention away from the actual problem. The
media also has the ability to influence society by broadcasting what they believe you
should see.

The influence of media is such that society absorbs whatever the media depicts.
The media also sometimes responds to public demand and provide the information
that the public craves for.

We know that the media now-a-days is engaged in distorting official facts , omitting
vital stories and supporting people with the power to keep their secrets. On the other
hand ,it is also benefiting society by revealing stories ,scams, etc.

The positive aspect of media has been that it has facilitated change in people’s
perception and exposed people to other cultures, made people aware of
environmental needs and about the people far away.

The media can thus form or modify public opinion in different ways depending on
what their objective is. So, it is our duty as enlightened citizens to not let ourselves
be misled.

We ,the people should become more aware and smarter to know the vitality of any
issues or news. Furthermore, instead of relying on one source of information on any
sensitive issue one can look for different sources.

Thank You
