MORALITY
- it is the quality of an act
- good/bad

Acts of man Human Acts


- acts that are done involuntarily - acts that are done voluntarily
- ex. breathing, heart beat - ex. eating, drinking

MODIFIERS OF HUMAN ACTS:


• Knowledge
• Freedom
• Consent

DETERMINANTS OF MORALITY:
• Object - what do we do?
• Intention - why do we do it?
• Circumstances - who, where, when, how?

Church - Helps us attain a Christian Moral Life

VIRTUES
- Are attitudes and habits that make us more likely to choose what is good.
- good behaviors that come naturally to us

We develop virtues through:


1). Education
2). Prayer
3). Practice

THEOLOGICAL VIRTUES (BIBLICAL)


1. Faith: belief in God (and Others)
-ability to believe in God & give your life to Him
2. Hope: perseverance and striving
- closely related to faith
3. Love (Charity): a charitable compassion towards others

CARDINAL VIRTUES (BY THE CHURCH)


1. Prudence
- aka hinge virtue
- having wisdom and common sense
- moral virtue
- carefulness, concern, diligence, precaution, reasoning, discretion
- HELPS YOU DECIDE ON WHAT IS GOOD AND CHOOSE TO DO IT

2. Justice
- giving people what they are owed to
- fair treatment, equity, righteousness
- respecting rights of others
3. Fortitude
- Courage or strength
- Gives you the courage to do what is right even when it is very difficult
4. Temperance
- Helps you balance what you want with what you need
- self control and self reliant

11 CHIEFS OF PASSION

1) LOVE - is a tendency towards a desirable good


2) HATRED - is the aversion for a sensible evil
3) DESIRE - a tendency towards a sensible good that is absent
4) HORROR - is a turning away from a sensible evil that is absent
5) DELIGHT - is a joy produced by the presence and possession of the desired
good
6) SADNESS - is a sorrowful experience produced by the presence of evil
7) HOPE – is the reaching out towards a future good whose attainment is
possible
8) DESPAIR - is the turning away from a good that is impossible to attain​

9) BRAVERY - is the courage to attack an evil that is possible to conquer

10) FEAR - is a state of anguish resulting from the thought that a threatening
evil cannot possibly overcome​
11) ANGER - is a state of displeasure excited by a feeling of having been
insulted or by a desire to avenge an injury​

IGNORANCE
- The absence of knowledge
- Negation of knowledge

PRIVATIVE NEGATIVE
- Absence of knowledge that - Absence of intellectual
ought to be there knowledge in man
THE 8 BEATITUDES

1ST BEATITUDE - Teaches us to be the last of all, the servant of all, to be humble,
to not judge others and share to all.

2ND BEATITUDE - To consider well the people we and others have lost, the things
we have not done well, and the things we long for. We should know that we are
never alone

3RD BEATITUDE - Teaches us to be slow to anger, to be quick with patience and


drop our ego

4TH BEATITUDE - Teaches us to help others to take the right path, to trust
everyone though they may let you down

5TH BEATITUDE - To strive to do the right thing, to forgive others first, then
ourselves. Our heavenly father will forgive you our transgressions , if we forgive
our fellow men theirs.

6TH BEATITUDE - Teaches us to build your castle with goodwill and with solid,
blameless, foundations

7TH BEATITUDE - Teaches us to love peace and to be involved in actively helping


others to make peace

8TH BEATITUDE - Teaches us not to stop doing the right thing because of others
