Overview of the Solar System

The solar system consists of the sun and eight planets that orbit it, along with smaller objects like asteroids and comets. The planets are divided into two categories - terrestrial planets like Earth that are rocky, and gas giants like Jupiter that are largely composed of gas. The solar system formed 4.6 billion years ago from a giant cloud of gas and dust.

The Solar system

 The solar system consists of the sun, the eight planets

and the satellites.
 Other than these, there are asteroids, comets, dust,
minor planets and gas.
 The sun, the planets mercury, Venus, earth, mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
 Planets are divided into two categories based on the
composition terrestrial and Jovian.
 Terrestrial planets including mercury, Venus, earth and
mars. They are made up of rocky material, surfaces are
solid, don’t have rings, relatively small.
 Jovian planets including Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
Neptune. Jupiter and Saturn is Gas giant, Uranus and
Neptune are ice giant.
 Gas giant are predominantly helium and hydrogen, ice
giant containing rock, ice, and mixture of water,
methane and ammonia.
 Jovian planets support ring system and no solid surface.
 Smallest planet is mercury, which has the shortest orbit
in the solar system.
 Venus is the hottest planet which is 867 degree
Fahrenheit. During the atmosphere of carbondioxide
extensive lava flows.
 Water systems help create only known environment to
sustain life is our earth.
 Mars might have supported life 3.7 billion years ago.
Once had a watery or icy surface.
 Largest planet in our solar system is Jupiter.
 Nearby Jupiter is Saturn , it is the second largest planet
of our solar system.
 Uranus is made of water, ammonia, methane and it is
ice giant. It rotate on its axis.
 Outermost planet of our solar system and also one of
the coldest planet is Neptune.
Asteroids
 Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the
sun. Although asteroids orbit the sun like planets,
they are much smaller than planets. There are lots
of asteroids in our solar system. Most of them live in
the main asteroid belt—a region between the orbits
of Mars and Jupiter. The largest asteroid is
called Ceres.
Comets
 Comets are large objects made of dust and ice that
orbit the Sun. Best known for their long, streaming
tails, these ancient objects are leftovers from the
formation of the solar system 4.6 billion years ago.
Comets are often referred to as "dirty snowballs.

Galaxy
 A galaxy is a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar
systems. A galaxy is held together by gravity.
 The galaxy in which we live is the Milky Way which is a large barred spiral shaped
galaxy. All the stars which we see during the night sky gazing are in our own Milky
Way Galaxy.
 The Milky Way contains between 100 and 400 billion stars and at least that many
planets.

Rockets and spacecrafts

 Spacecraft launch on rockets and have their own propulsion and navigation
systems that take over after they separate from the rocket, propelling them to
other worlds in our solar system.
 Rockets deliver satellites to space where they can begin to do their
important work. Without rockets, we wouldn't be able to use our cell
phones, watch a lot of our favorite television shows, find out the
weather forecast, navigate with Global Positioning System (GPS), or
explore our solar system—just to name a few.
