Dr. Pedro T. Orata’s Contributions to His Community Dr. Pedro T. Orata, known as the Father
of Barrio High Schools, made significant contributions to his community. He championed
education for people from all walks of life, believing in the principle of education for all. He
founded the Urdaneta Community College (now Urdaneta City University), the country’s first
community college. His efforts have had a profound impact on providing accessible education to
the rural people of the Philippines.
UCU’s Role in Community Development Urdaneta City University (UCU) has played a crucial
role in community development. It was established to provide education to knowledge-hungry
youth and young adults, particularly those who could not afford collegiate schooling in the cities.
UCU has also been committed to providing quality education and responsive community
extension services. The university has launched a 6-year plan entitled “The Elevated Path,”
which is designed to drive the university’s undertakings, events, programs, activities, and
community members to achieve a common goal.
