Hiphop

Hip-hop is a genre of music most often characterized by a strong, rhythmic beat and a rapping
vocal track.
Derived from popular music combined with street dance and choreographs that jive with the
beat
A type of dance that is very energetic as dancers move freely with adding their own personality
into the dance
Hip hop dance began as a freestyle dance performed in the streets by dance crews, mostly to
hip hop music.

The genre originated in New York City in the 1970s
Hip-hop dance began during the late 1960's and early 1970's, originally inspired by the
movements of African dancing, and flourished as a new style of dance performed on the street
for the people. Hip-hop incorporates aspects of modern dance, tap, and swing, integrating
music and complex movements to form artistry.

East Coast hip-hop began with the unique rhythmic combinations

West Coast hip-hop took the dance style from the East Coast and made it its own, transforming some of
the frozen moves and making them more robotic. The West Coast was also where two of modern hip-
hop’s most iconic styles, popping and locking, were born.

1. DJing- is also known as the first element of hiphop culture. It can also refer to the playing of
Electronic Dance Music (EDM)
2. MCing/Rapping- Spoken or chanting rhyming lyrics
3. Breakdancing- is a style of street dance that originated primarily among Puerto Rican and
African American Youth
4. Graffiti- are writing or drawing that has been scribbled, scratched, or painted illicity on a wall
or other surface, often within public view.

Dance has popular since civilization have existed, but dance became a profession in the mid-1400s when
dancers began performing for wealthy Europeans during the Late middle ages

Due to ancient beginnings of dance, we cannot attribute the invention of dance to one singular person
or group

hop music. Hip-hop dance is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements to
create a cultural piece of art. Through its three main styles of popping, locking, and breaking, hip-hop
dance has evolved into one of the most popular and influential styles of dance.

The first major hiphop deejay was DJ Kool Herc (Clive Campbell), an 18-year-old immigrant who
introduced the huge sound systems of his native Jamaica to inner- city parties

What is the tap dance


-It is one of the few dance forms in which hearing the dance is as important as seeing it
-The dancers create rhythms or patterns of beats, using the metal taps under the toe and heel
-Most tap dance is choreographed, but it may also be improvised
- using mostly footwork and not showing very much arm or body movement.

Tap dance originated in the United States in the early 19th century at the crossroads of
African and Irish American dance forms

1890- After the civil war many minstrel shows were created which dded
1930- Tap dance being represented in film. Movies are depicting tap dance and musicals. It is
very popular.

1980-90’s tap dance festivals began being held nationally NATIONAL TAP DANCE DAY

Clothing-
They would dress up in formal clothing with black or white heeled shoes usually made of some
pairing of leather, plastic, wood, or canvas.
Dance trousers, capris, shorts, and a bodysuit are all excellent choices for tap dance clothing.
