“SINIGANG”

By:Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran

1. The story happened to be in Liza’s home where she and her aunt talk first on
the garden and at the kitchen where they continued most of their talks.
2. The characters in the story are Liza, Tita Loleng, Sylvia, Liza’s Mother and
Father,Lem and Meg.
3. I think the reason led to the emotional separation of Liza from her father is
when her mother and father separated because of her Father’s extramarital
affair with another woman and consequently had a child. This issue tainted Liza’s
relationship to her Father.
4. The interesting part of the story is when Tita Loleng asked Liza about her
encounter with Sylvia in the wake of Lem who died because of cancer as Tita
Loleng asked Liza while cooking sinigang, flashbacks of Liza’s memories revealed
the memories of her family. While she was preparing the tomatoes, Tita Loleng
started asking questions to her then a memory came to her mind.Liza is sitting
on a sofa in the living room in bulacan. She was in her half-brother’s wake who
died in cancer. she was only requested to be there because her father requested
her mother to ask her to visit Lem’s wake.
5. The story was about many husbands are committing adultery and looking for
another woman which leads to a broken family and tainted relationships with
her family members. This issue is very common every filipino families but this
story thought us how to accept and forgive others despite of their mistakes they
did.
6. The person who narrated the story “Sinigang” is Liza herself.
7. The significant lesson I have learned from the story is even how many or big
is your parents mistakes you need to forgive them, you need to start learning how
to forgive and let go of the hurtful things that have happened in your life because
at the end of the day it is still your parents, they are the reason why you’re living
in this world.
8. I think some married man commit extramarital affair maybe because they are
lack of love, low of commitment and more that they’re not experiencing in their
partners.
9. Adultery was not ordinary for me,even if I am a filipino I would say that it was
a disgrace on the culture of our country and should not be tolerated and not be
accepted as an ordinary situation this is happening in our society because of
some nonsense reasons.Marriage is the union between man and woman,a holy
ceremony that must be respected and last forever no matter what the
circumstances might come or happen, husband and wife should forever remain
faithful to one another and should not destroy their reputation as well as their
own family and the exchange of vows that they have been made in front of many
people because o that reason.
10. My reflections/realizations from the story I had read is that sometimes I
need to forgive people who hurt me or betrayed me , not for that I’m okay with
what they did I’m forgiving them for myself so I can achieve peace and move on
with my life, the more grudges we have towards other people the heavier we feel
all the time, sometimes you don’t need to have a closure for us to move on so let’s
use our time and energy in pouring all of the love toward ourselves.
