Present Simple Present Continuous

USE: USE:
-when something is generally or always -actions in progress at the time speaking
-a situation that we think is permanent - temporary actions

RULES: FORM: Sb+ am/are/is + vb-ing


-3rd person sg. add „s” (o, s, x, sh, ch)
-„do” and „does” for interrogative and ADV: now/ at the time
negative sentences
A: Tom is feeding the cat now.
FORM: Sb+ vb/vb-s
I: Is tom feeding the cat?
ADV: daily /often /never /usually What is Tom doing now?

A: He reads a now book monthly. N: Tom isn't feeding the cat now.
I: Where does she work?
N: I don't buy strawberries.

Present Perfect Simple Present Perfect Continuous

USE: USE:
-an action that is still going on or that -an action started in the past an has
stopped recently, but has an influence on continued up until now
the present
FORM: Sb+ have/has+ been+vb-ing
FORM: Sb+ have/has+ participle form
ADV: for/ since
ADV: already/ ever/ just/ never/ yet
A: It has been sitting on the chair.
A: I have spoken with them.
I: Have they been lying?
I: Have you bitten an apple?
N: She hasn't been coming at school.
N: He hasn't flown with a plane.
Past Simple Past Continuous

USE: USE:
-to talk about finished actions and time -actions happening at a particular time in
the past
RULES:
-„did” for interrogative and negative FORM: Sb+ was/were+ vb-ing

ADV: only/ still/ just
FORM: Sb+ vb-ed/ past form
A: She was cycling to school.
ADV: yesterday/ last night
I: What were you thinking about?
A: I went there last year.
N: I wasn't studying at home.
I: What did they talk about at the school?

Future Simple Be Going To

USE: USE:
-a voluntary action -plans
-a promise -intentions

FORM: Sb+ will('ill)/ will not(won't)+vb FORM: Sb+ am/are/is going to+ vb

ADV: tomorrow/ later/ next year ADV: tomorrow/ later/next week

A: I will make some sandwiches. A: I am going to visit my grandpa later.

I: Will you help him later? I: Are you going to visit your grandpa?

N: She won't meet with them. N: I'm not going to visit my grandpa.

Future In The Past Used To
USE: USE:
-to talk about future events, seen from a -to talk about habits and repeated actions

ADV: before/ until/ after FORM: Sb+ had been+ vb-ing
