ME252 STRENGTH OF MATERIALS II. FINAL HWK/EXAM. 18.06.

2021

1. The mass m is dropped from a height h onto the bar A-B.

(25) a) Not including the displacement of A in the Potential Energy, find the axial impact load 𝑃𝑚 .
(25) b) For this compressive impact load 𝑃𝑚 find the critical value of mass which will cause
buckling. Consider the bar as an Euler column.

(1)
2. (25) The force P is acting onto the beam ABC through the rigid arm BD. Considering the effects of P
at the point B and using Singularity Functions determine the deflection of the end point C. (EI is
constant for ABC).

(2)
3. (25) Determine the maximum Bending Moment 𝑀𝐵 and Torsional Moment 𝑀𝑇 in the curved beam
ABCD due to the forces acting on the end D as shown. Show them on the cross section they act on.
