What I enjoy most/least about the text. This is the second time I have read The
Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (2005), and I still feel like it is a must read for
any Christian. The first time I read this book I remember being awed by God s Grace for
ragamuffins and how that relates to my interactions with people; when I showed God s
grace, and when I did not. I still remember specific times when God reminded me how
much he loved the broken and how I could be his hand outreached by being Jesus with
skin on . I also remember specific times when I knew God was directing me to love on
someone, and I for one reason or another, I did not. The first time I read Manning s book,
I fell more in love with people because it helped get a glimpse of how much God loved a
ragamuffin. Now that I am older and life has been harder, I read Manning s book in a
different light. Unlike the first time, where I was reminded how much God loves others;
this time it reminds me how much God loves me! Even though my faith has faltered, and
I have had series of doubts and struggles with trust, God sill loves me. While reading the
same words I did several years ago I am seeing things differently.

Poland. He was Christened Jozef Teodor Korzeniovski but changed his name later

Doria Shafiq was a feminist and a philosopher. She was also an editor and a poet, and
one of the principal leaders of the women s liberation movement in Egypt in the mid
1940s meaning that she was a women s rights activist. Through her efforts, she fought
against women oppression in Egypt. Doria Shafiq was born in Tanta in the Nile Delta of
Northern Egypt and studied in a French mission school. She was the youngest Egyptian
at the age of 16 years to earn the French Baccalaureate degree. She wrote two journals
one focusing on the merely utilitarian ends generally associated with Ancient Egyptian

When she was in Paris, she met and married her husband Nour Al Din Ragai a law
student who was working on his PhD. When she returned to Egypt from Paris in 1940
upon the completion of her studies, she was more focused in contributing to the
education of the youth in her society but was denied a chance by the dean of faculty of
literature in Cairo University with the claim that she was too modern. In 1945, Shafiq
was offered an opportunity to be the editor in chief of a French cultural and literary
magazine addressing the country s elite by the wife of Egypt s then former King Fuad I.
After accepting the position, the King s wife died in 1947 and Shafiq took complete
control of the union including its finances. Through her direction, the magazine gained
regional status and also during this period is when she decided to take the opportunity
and publish an Arabic magazine that was known as the Daughter of the Nile with the
intention to educate all women in Egypt and also help them have the most effective roles
in their society. Her intentions were to ensure that women s primary social problems are

For this coursework, I will be looking at whether parents should be allowed to hit their
children or children that are being looked after by them.
Like most questions there are usually two sides to the argument.
The 1st reason why parents should be allowed to hit their kids is to enforce a form of

For example, confiscating their toys wouldn t be as effective because the parents may
eventually give the toys back or may give into the child s request.
Other parents argue that hitting your child is wrong.
This is because hitting the child may upset them even after the discipline has been
enforced.
Hitting your child may physically and emotionally scar them. This could also make the
child form hatred towards the parent.
Some parents hit their child / children even though they may not want to. They can lose
their temper in the heat of the moment and can t physically stop themselves from doing
it.
Many of these parents should find counselling to help them overcome this problem.
When I was a child, my parents used to discipline me by hitting me but only if I behaved
very badly.
Looking back on it now, it wasn t so bad because they only ever hit me when I was
naughty and I was never emotionally or physically hurt from it. I was only physically
hurt for a moment but I guess that s one of the reasons why I behaved.
Over time I eventually learnt how to behave the way my parents wanted me to so the
hitting stopped. This made me the person I am today. I consider myself lucky compared
to other children who have been treated badly or hurt from their parents
