Reflection

As a student nurses, we get to work in different healthcare places, and my recent duty in a
mental hospital was unlike anything I had encountered before. Walking into their different
world, I felt a mix of emotions, curiosity, nervousness, and a strong sense of duty. There was no
major problem we encountered during our 2 weeks RLE duty, there are also student nurses
coming from different schools handling patients so I noticed the patients to be handled are
limited only, some of our groupmates are assigned 2 student nurses to 1 patient, and I was glad
I had to handle one patient on my own. We were so grateful that we are all accommodated,
though it was raining non-stop throughout our duty due to low pressure and typhoons, I can say
that we were all productive and finished all the major activities that was need to be done and
experience.

During our first-time duty at the NCMH Pavilion 10, I felt a rollercoaster of emotions. At the
beginning, I was quite nervous and unsure about what to expect. Mental health care was a new
territory for me, and I worried if I could handle the challenges that might come my way.
However, as I spent more time in the hospital, those initial fears gradually transformed into a
deep sense of curiosity and compassion. I started to understand the struggles faced by
individuals with mental health conditions, and I felt a strong desire to make a positive impact on
their lives. Witnessing the dedication of the hospital staff and the resilience of the patients
inspired me greatly. I also felt a profound sense of responsibility as a student nurse, realizing
that I had an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of these individuals. As the days went
by, I grew more comfortable in the environment, and the connections I made with some
patients further reinforced my passion for mental health care. This experience taught me so
much more than I had anticipated. It made me appreciate the importance of mental health and
the significance of providing nonjudgmental support to those in need. Although there were
moments of emotional challenges, overall, I found the experience to be eye-opening and
transformative. As I continue my journey as a student nurse, I am eager to carry forward the
lessons learned from my time at the mental health hospital and apply them in my future nursing
practice to help those who are going through difficult times.

I had the privilege of being under the guidance of Ma'am Erlinda Tolentino as our clinical
instructor, and I must say that her effectiveness and efficiency left a lasting impression on me.
Despite the short time we spent together, I learned a tremendous amount from her.
Ma'am Erlinda's teaching style was engaging and practical. Her approach encouraged active
participation, allowing us to develop critical thinking skills and gain confidence in our clinical
decision-making. What impressed me the most was her dedication to ensuring our learning
experience was meaningful. Her commitment to our growth as student nurses was evident in
the way she encouraged us to be proactive and take initiative in our learning.

Moreover, Ma'am Erlinda's efficient time management skills were commendable. Despite the
limited time, she maximized each moment to focus on essential nursing skills and hands-on
experience. Above all, Ma'am Erlinda's unwavering support and encouragement created a
positive and nurturing learning environment.

In conclusion, Ma'am Erlinda Tolentino's effectiveness and efficiency as a clinical instructor left a
significant impact on my learning journey. Despite the short time we spent under her guidance,
I am grateful for the wealth of knowledge and experiences she shared with us, which will
undoubtedly shape my future as a nurse.
