Learning Feedback Diary

Date: October 11, 2023

Today was a significant day as we had our orientation at St. Camillus Hospital, led by Ma'am
Valenzuela and the hospital director. The comprehensive tour covered all areas, providing us
with valuable insights into the hospital's operations. It was exciting to learn about the diverse
departments and functions within the hospital.

We had only 1 patient for the whole shift, and to our surprise, it was the father of one of my
classmates. This added a personal touch to our responsibilities and emphasized the importance
of compassionate care. The task assigned to me was drug skin testing.

I look forward to more experiences in the Emergency Area, as it will undoubtedly contribute to
my growth as a student nurse. The lessons learned today have underscored the importance of
adaptability, effective communication, and a strong commitment to patient well-being in the
challenging setting of the Emergency Room.

Today marked another day in the Emergency Area at St. Camillus Hospital, where we were
assigned to care for a patient. We prepared drugs, administer drugs, getting vital signs and
filling out forms of the patient. At the end of the shift, our clinical instructor gave us a drug
study to do at home, while it was not a busy day, I recognize the significance of honing my skills
even during quieter shifts. It provided me with the opportunity to focus on the details of patient
care and strengthen my foundation in emergency nursing.

Today under the guidance of our clinical instructor, Sir Cerlito we had our duty in Calbayog
District Hospital. The day commenced with a brief but informative orientation of the ward,
providing us with an overview of the diverse cases and patient population.

One notable highlight of the day was observing the endorsement process from the previous
shift to the next. Witnessing the thorough exchange of information emphasized the importance
of clear communication in ensuring seamless continuity of care.

Later in the day, Sir Cerlito presented us with a valuable hands-on opportunity – the chance to
perform IV insertions for patients in need. This practical experience allowed us to apply our
theoretical knowledge, and under Sir Cerlito's guidance, we successfully carried out the
procedure, although mine needed a little assistance from Sir Cerlito, other than that we took
vital signs, regulated IV infusion rate, the trust and confidence he placed in us boosted our self-
assurance and affirmed the progress we've made in our nursing skills.

Today marked another enriching day at Calbayog District Hospital, where we continued our
clinical rotation in the ward area under the guidance of Sir Cerlito. Performing vital signs on our
respective patients brought a sense of individualized care and heightened our awareness of the
significance of routine assessments in monitoring patient well-being. The learning continued
with a recitation focused on common drugs used in the ward area. Sir Cerlito ensured our
understanding of medication administration, emphasizing the importance of accurate dosage
and potential side effects.

Our CI required us to do case study from our assigned patient, my case study focused on
amoebiasis. Throughout the day, I was reminded of the holistic nature of nursing, where each
aspect – from vital signs to medication administration and case studies – contributes to
comprehensive patient care. The hands-on experiences and the guidance provided by Sir Cerlito
deepened my understanding of the intricacies of patient management.

Reflecting on today's experiences, I am genuinely grateful for the opportunities to learn and
grow as a student nurse.

Today brought a shift in our clinical placement as we ventured into the hemodialysis area, a
realm where patients with kidney diseases undergo a crucial and life-sustaining procedure.
Under the supervision of our clinical instructor Sir Denflor, we were assigned 2:1 ratio,
responsible for closely monitoring their vital signs throughout the entire duration of the dialysis
session.

The day began with a comprehensive orientation to the hemodialysis unit, providing insights
into the intricacies of the dialysis process and the unique needs of patients with kidney
diseases. Taking vital signs every 30 minutes demanded a heightened level of attention and
precision. It was a continuous process that required us to be vigilant and responsive to any
changes in the patients' conditions. The close monitoring highlighted the delicate balance that
healthcare providers must maintain during dialysis to ensure the safety and stability of patients.

Today's experience in the hemodialysis unit was not only educational but also transformative. It
reinforced the understanding that health is a precious asset that should be valued and
protected.

Another round in the hemodialysis unit today, doing the same stuff as yesterday. Monitored
patients during dialysis, taking vital signs every 30 minutes.

Getting more comfortable with the routine, and it's cool to see how the healthcare team works
together. The patients here are tough and the nurses are like superheroes, making sure
everything runs smoothly. Realized again how important it is to take care of our health. Kidney
disease is no joke, and it made me think about how we can avoid this stuff by just being a bit
more careful with our lifestyle.

Today was a whirlwind in the Emergency Department at Calbayog District Hospital. We had Sir
Wilton as our clinical instructor, and it was quite an experience. Unlike before, we were paired
up and sent right into the emergency room action.

Our main task for the day was to perform an IV insertion on a patient. We also had to prime the
IV, prepare meds, and carry out orders. Finally got to use the skills from our return
demonstration – it was a mix of excitement and nerves.

Sir Wilton stressed the importance of being fast and vigilant in the emergency room. Every
second counts, and you really need to be on your toes. It's a whole different vibe compared to
other areas, and it makes you appreciate the intensity of emergency nursing.

The teamwork in the emergency room is like a well-oiled machine. Nurses, doctors, everyone
working together. I realized the value of being quick on your feet and the importance of
communication in such a dynamic setting.

As I reflect on today, I can't help but appreciate the chaos and urgency of the emergency room.
It's challenging, but the learning is massive. Every case is a lesson, and every task is an
opportunity to grow. Excited to see what else the emergency room has in store for us.

Busy day in the Emergency Room at St. Camillus Hospital today. It felt like a never-ending flow of
patients, and everyone was on their toes. All twelve of us got assigned to different tasks, mine
was data collection and filling up forms.

Interestingly, all the patients got endorsed to the ward, All my classmates experienced
endrorsing except for me and President of Level 4 Section A, my classmate Sorio, We were on a
different mission, a meeting at CKC for the upcoming Testimonial Dinner for the newly passed
nurses. It was a productive day, each day is a new adventure.

Back to the Emergency Room at St. Camillus Hospital today, All twelve of us got assigned
different tasks, mine was data collection and filling up forms. It was a bit different from my
previous experiences in the emergency room. Instead of hands-on medical procedures, my role
was more about gathering crucial information and making sure all the paperwork was in order.

Working with Ma'am Valenzuela was insightful. She emphasized the significance of accurate and
prompt data collection. In the midst of all the chaos, having organized and complete
information is a must, It’s like the backbone of the whole emergency operation.

Today made me realize that even seemingly less flashy roles, like data collection, play a vital role
in the Emergency Room. It's a reminder that every team member has a unique contribution to
the overall functioning of the department.

Today, our duty took place at Calbayog District Hospital under the guidance of Sir Cerlito, we
were assigned in groups of three to handle the emergency room. One of the most impactful
experience for me today was participating in the resuscitation efforts of a hypertensive patient
whose systolic blood pressure had soared to an alarming 300, despite the efforts of the nurses
and doctorand my involvement in chest compression during CPR, the patient did not survive. It
was physically exhausting and emotionally challenging for me.

Earlier before that, I assisted my partner Ramos in an IV insertion, successfully carrying out
doctor’s order. I also observed one of the doctor stitching wound, we also took part in various
tasks such as filling out forms for the patient.

Today’s experience has taught me the gravity of the situations in the emergency room, the
importance of effective teamwork, witnessing the loss of a patient highlighted the need for
compassion and empathy in our profession.

I look forward to further learning and appreciate the opportunities for growth during clinical
rotation.
