DESCRIPTION OF CORE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION


COURSES
Course Title: The Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning Principles
Course Description: This course focuses on child and adolescent development with
emphasis on current research and theory on biological, linguistic,
cognitive, social and emotional dimensions of development. Further,
this includes factors that affect the progress of development of the
learners and shall include appropriate pedagogical principles
applicable for each development level.

Course Title: Facilitating Learner Centered Teaching


Course Description: This course explores the fundamental principles, processes, and
practices anchored on learner-centeredness and other educational
psychologies as these apply to facilitate various teaching-learning
delivery modes to enhance learning.

Course Title: The Teaching Profession


Course Description: This course deals with the teacher as a person and as a professional
within the context of national and global teacher’s standards and
educational philosophies. It will include professional ethics, core
values, awareness of professional rights, privileges and
responsibilities as well as the teachers’ role in the society as a
transformative agent of change.

Course Title: Technology for Teaching and Learning 1


Course Description: This is an introductory course that explores basic knowledge, skills
and values in the use of technology for teaching and learning. It
include ICT policies and safety issues, media and technology in
various content areas, learning theories and principles in the use and
design of learning lessons, teaching-learning experiences and
assessment tasks that utilize appropriate traditional and innovative
technologies with social, ethical and legal responsibility in the use of
technology tools and resources.

Course Title: Assessment in Learning 1


Course Description: This is a course that focuses on the principles, development and
utilization of conventional assessment tools to improve the teaching-
learning process. It emphasizes on the use of assessment of, as,
and for, in measuring knowledge, comprehension and other thinking
skills in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains, it allows
students to go through the standard steps in test construction and
development and the application in grading system.

Course Title: Assessment of Learning 2


Course Description: this is a course that focuses on the principles, development and
utilization of alternative forms of assessment in measuring authentic
learning. It emphasizes on how to assess process and product-
oriented learning outcomes as well as affective learning. Students
will experience how to develop rubrics and -other assessment tools
for performance-based and product-based assessment.

Course Title: The Teacher and the School Curriculum


Course Description: This course includes the fundamental concepts and principles in
curriculum and curriculum development as a foundation to engage
prospective teachers in planning, implementing and evaluating
school-curriculum as well as in managing school curriculum change
vis-à-vis various context of teaching-learning and curricular reforms
shall be given emphasis.
Course Title: The Teacher and the Community, School Culture and
Organizational Leadership
Course Description: This course focuses on society as a context upon which the schools
have been established. Educational philosophies that are related to
the society as a foundation of schools and schooling shall be
emphasized. Further, principles and theories on schools culture, and
organizational leadership shall be included to prepare prospective
teachers to become school teachers and managers.

Course Title: Foundation of Special and Inclusive Education


Course Description: This course shall be deal with philosophies, theories and legal bases
of special needs and inclusive education, typical and atypical
development of children, learning characteristics of students with
special education needs (gifted and talented, learners with difficulty
seeing, learners with difficulty walking/moving, learners with difficulty
remembering and focusing, learners with difficulty with self-care) and
strategies in teaching and managing these learners in the regular
class.

Course Title: Building and Enhancing New Literacies Across the Curriculum
Course Description: this course introduces the concepts of new literacies in the 21st
century as an evolving social phenomena and shared cultural
practices across learning areas. This 21st century literacies shall
include (a) globalization and multi-cultural literacy, (b) social literacy,
(c) media literacy, (d) financial literacy, (e) cyber literacy/digital
literacy, (f) eco-literacy and (g) arts and creativity literacy. Field-
based interdisciplinary explorations and other teaching strategies
shall be used in this course.

Course Title: Experiential Learning (Field Studies and Teaching Internship)


Course Description: This course is year-long engagement that supports authentic
experiential learning from field study and actual classroom immersion
of the prospective teacher. It begins with field study experiences
through (a) observation and (b) participation and will progress to (c)
teaching assistantship and (d) guided/mentored classroom teaching.
The NCBTS domains shall be used as guideposts in developing the
content, pedagogy and implementation scheme of this course.

Course Title: Field Study 1 – Observation of Teaching-Learning in Actual


School Environment
Course Description: This is the first experiential course, which will immerse a future
teacher to actual classroom situation and learning environment
where direct observation of teaching learning episode that focuses
on the application of educational theories learned in content and
pedagogy courses will be made. Observations on learner’s behavior,
motivation, teacher’s strategies of teaching, classroom management,
assessment in learning among others shall be given emphasis. A
portfolio shall be required in the course.

Course Title: Field Study 2 – Participation and Teaching Assistantship


Course Description: This course is a continuation of Field Study 1. It is school based and
allows a pre-service student to participate and assist in limited actual
teaching-learning activities that relate to assessment of learning,
preparation of instructional materials, preparation of the bulletin
boards, and other routines in the classroom. A portfolio which will
contain sample lessons or learning plans and demonstration
teaching of at least ones subject content area shall be encouraged to
start in this course and conclude during the internship.
Course Title: Teaching Internship
Course Description: This course is a one semester full time teaching internship in basic
education schools using a clinical approach under the mentorship of
a cooperating teacher. Teaching internship shall be done both in the
in-campus or off-campus if possible. No academic courses shall be
taken together with Teaching Internship. A teaching portfolio shall be
required and the completion of the Action Research.
DESCRIPTION OF BEEd SPECIALIZATION/MAJOR COURSES
Course Title: Content and Pedagogy in the Mother-tongue
Course Description: This course includes both the content and the pedagogy of the
mother tongue. The subject matter content includes the structure of
the mother tongue as a language, literature in the mother tongue,
methods and techniques of teaching the language, development of
instructional materials and assessment.

Course Title: Pagtuturo ng Filipino sa Elementarya I-Estruktura at Gamit ng


Wikang Filipino
Course Description: Pagsannay ng paggamit ng estruktura at gamit ng Wikang Filipino sa
pagtuturo sa elementary. Sumasaklaw sa deskriptong pag-aaral ng
wikang Filipino sa lebel ng polohiya, morpolohiya, semantikas at
sintaks.

Course Title: Pagtuturo ng Filipino sa Elemenatarya II – Panitikang ng


Pilipinas
Course Description: Paggamit ng mga iba’t ibang anyo ng literatura ng Pilipinas galing sa
sarili at iba’t ibang rehiyon sa pagtuturo, produksyon at (assessment)
na angkop sa elementarya.

Course Title: Teaching Science in the Primary Grades (Biology and


Chemistry)
Course Description: The course includes understanding of spiraling basic science
concepts and application of science inquiry in Chemistry and Biology
and the use of teaching strategies in elementary science,
development of instructional materials and assessment. Content
topics in chemistry include Properties and Structure of Matter and
Changes that Matter Undergo. In Biology content topics includes
Parts and Functions of Animals and Plants, Heredity: Inheritance and
variation, Biodiversity and Evolution and Ecosystems.

Course Title: Teaching Science in the Intermediate Grades (Physics, Earth


and Space Science)
Course Description: This course includes understanding of spiraling basic science
concepts and application of science inquiry in Physics and Earth and
Space, strategies in teaching elementary science, development of
instructional materials and assessment. Content topics in Physics
include Force and Motion, and Energy while Earth and Space
Science include Geology, Meteorology, and Astronomy.

Course Title: Teaching Social Studies in Primary Grades – Philippine History


and Government
Course Description: This course emphasizes the contents of Philippine History and
Government that are necessary in teaching at the elementary level.
Further, appropriate teaching strategies and assessment methods
shall be included to prepare students to become elementary grades
teachers.

Course Title: Teaching Social Studies in Intermediate Grades – (Culture and


Basic Geography)
Course Description: the course aims to equip the students in the BEEd program a strong
background in local history and culture. This background serves as
an avenue for further inquiry of the available resources in the
community for the localization and contextualization of teaching of
elementary subjects. Areas to be studied include natural heritage of
the locality, tangible and intangible culture that are of great
significance to the socio-economic and political activities of the
people in the place. In the end they are expected to come up with the
profiling of available cultural resources in the community.
Course Title: Teaching Math in the Primary Grades
Course Description: This course equips prospective teachers with pedagogical content
knowledge for the teaching of basic contents in mathematics in the
primary level. Understanding of key concepts and skills of whole
numbers up to 10, 000, fractions, measurement, simple geometric
figures, pre-algebra concepts and data representation and analysis
are applied using appropriate technology.

Course Title: Teaching Math in the Intermediate Grades


Course Description: As preparation for teaching in the intermediate grades, this course
emphasizes the integration of technological pedagogical content
knowledge that includes topics on rational numbers, measurement,
geometric figures, pre-algebra concepts, application of simple
probability and data analysis. This course is capped with
microteaching that utilizes appropriate teaching strategies for the
development of critical and problem solving, reasoning,
communicating, making corrections, representations, and decisions
in real life situations.

Course Title: Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (1)


Course Description: This course shall include pedagogical content, knowledge and skills
in technology and livelihood education necessary in teaching and
learning in the elementary level. Selected topics in home economics,
industrial arts, technology and livelihood education shall form a major
part of the course. Experiential learning approach shall be the focus
of this course.

Course Title: Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan with


Entrepreneurship
Course Description: This course shall include pedagogical content, knowledge and skills
in technology and livelihood education necessary in teaching and
learning in the elementary level. Selected topics in agriculture arts,
fisheries arts and livelihood education and entrepreneurship shall
form a major part of the course. Experiential learning approach shall
be the focus of the course.

Course Title: Teaching Music in the Elementary Grades


Course Description: This course deals with the educational foundations of Music as it
apply to teaching and learning in the elementary grades. Various
teaching strategies and assessment appropriate for each area shall
be given emphases in the course.

Course Title: Teaching Arts in the Elementary Grades


Course Description: This course deals with the educational foundations of Arts as these
apply to teaching and learning in the elementary grades. Various
teaching strategies and assessment appropriate for each area shall
be given emphases in the course.

Course Title: Teaching PE and Health in the Elementary Grades


Course Description: This course deals with the educational foundations of Physical
Education as these apply to teaching learning in the elementary
grades. Various teaching strategies and assessment appropriate for
each area shall be given emphases in the course.

Course Title: Teaching English in the Elementary Grades (Language Arts)


Course Description: This course will emphasize English as a second language with main
focus on language teaching methodologies to improve knowledge on
the structure and fluency in the English language through listening,
reading, writing, speaking, and viewing.
Course Title: Teaching Literacy in the Elementary Grades through Literature
Course Description: This course focus on Children’s Literature in English to include
riddles, poetry, stories, drama, and other written works as an avenue
to teach English language. Teaching methodologies in the use of
literature shall be emphasized.

Course Title: Good Manners and Right Conduct (Edukasyon sa


Pagpapakatao)
Course Description: Anchored on the essential component of personhood that deals with
intra/interpersonal relationships which allow harmony with oneself,
with other and the environment, this course will highlight the
fundamental rules of good manners and appropriate conduct or
behavior of each learner which are necessary of the formation of
character that embraces the core values of Maka-Dios, Maka-Tao,
Maka-Bansa and Maka-Kalikasan.

Course Title: Technology for Teaching and Learning in the Elementary


Grades
Course Description: This course is designed for prospective teachers to develop and use
digital and non-digital teaching-learning resources using technology
tools appropriate in various subject areas in the elementary level.
Further, the course will provide opportunities for students to use
technology tools to develop project-based collaborative activities and
share resources among communities of practice.

Course Title: Research in Teaching


Course Description: This is a practicum research course that will provide prospective
elementary teachers as avenue to conduct applied or action research
that will provide empirical bases to improve teaching and learning.
This course maybe taken together simultaneously with Field Study 1
and Field Study 2.

Course Title: Teaching Multi-Grade Classes


Course Description: This is a course in implementation of multi-grade course that deals
with the theories, principles, and concepts of multi-grade learners
and classes. It includes pedagogical approaches and contextualized
learning environments for the different grade and age level are
grouped for instructions in different school situations.
BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION MAJOR IN ENGLISH
Course Title: Introduction to Linguistics
Course Description: Provides an overview of linguistics as a discipline, its development,
levels of structure, and its significance to English language teaching.

Course Title: Language, Culture and Society


Course Description: Explores the inextricable link between and among language, culture,
and society and its implications to the development of English as a
global language and the ways by which it is learned and taught.

Course Title: Structure of English


Course Description: Develops the ability to use phonological, lexical, syntactic, and
semantic structures of English with ease and explain the form,
meaning, and use of their elements.

Course Title: Principles and Theories of Language Acquisition and Learning


Course Description: Examines principles, factors, and contexts of language acquisition
and learning based theories and research findings.

Course Title: Language Programs and Policies in Multilingual Societies


Course Description: Provides a survey of local and international basic education
language programs and policies that account for issues and
considerations relevant to the engagement of teachers in school
settings.

Course Title: Language Learning Materials Development


Course Description: Develops the application of the principles, methods, and approaches
of translation and adaptation of various texts.

Course Title: Teaching and Assessment of Literature Studies


Course Description: Develops the application of the principles, methods, and approaches
of translation and adaptation of various texts.

Course Title: Teaching and Assessment of the Macroskills


Course Description: Explores the nature of reading and the theoretical bases, principles,
and methods and strategies in teaching and assessing reading. It
aims to familiarize students with various strategies for pre-reading,
during reading, and post-reading.

Course Title: Teaching and Assessment of the Grammar


Course Description: The course engages learners in understanding the distinctions
between and among four types of grammar; functional, descriptive,
prescriptive, and pedagogic. Aside from the emphasis on how
teaching and assessment vary considering the four types, the course
also provides opportunities to discover the role of grammar in
achieving communicative competence.

Course Title: Speech and Theater Arts


Course Description: Examines the process of oral communications and the various forms
of speech arts from public speaking and group discussions to
debate, oral interpretation and dramatics.

Course Title: Language Research


Course Description: Develops skills in applying principles and approaches in research to
find answers to questions in language learning and teaching.

Course Title: Child and Adolescent Literature


Course Description: Provides a survey of the categories and types of world’s literature for
children and adolescents.
Course Title: Mythology and Folklore
Course Description: Explores mythology and folklore from different countries to gain
insight into people’s origin, desires, fears, instincts, and needs.

Course Title: Survey of Philippine Literature in English


Course Description: Enables students to analyze the growth and development of
Philippine Literature in English from 1900 to the present along socio-
historical events as shown in representative works.

Course Title: Survey of Afro-Asian Literature


Course Description: Surveys selected literary texts from Asia and Africa, particularly India,
China, Japan, the countries in the southeast region in Asia, and the
African nations south of the Sahara along socio-historical,
philosophical, and literary underpinnings.

Course Title: Survey of English and American Literature


Course Description: Engages students in a historical survey of selected literary works
produced by understanding English and American literatures from its
beginning to the 21st century.

Course Title: Contemporary, Popular, and Emergent Literature


Course Description: Focuses on critical issues in contemporary and popular literature and
genres.

Course Title: Literary Criticisms


Course Description: Provides students with opportunities to study the basic approaches
to literary theory and criticisms and their application to selected
literary works.

Course Title: Technical Writing


Course Description: Develops technical and scientific writing skills across disciplines.

Course Title: Campus Journalism


Course Description: Develops skills and applies principles and strategies in writing for
traditional and new media.

Course Title: Technology for Teaching and Learning 2 (Technology in


Secondary Language Education)
Course Description: TTL 2 is a 3-unit course which will focus on the application, design,
production, utilization, and evaluation of Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) materials for teaching and
learning in Secondary Language (English and Filipino) Education
Programs. The major requirement for this course is an ICT-integrated
and Project-based Learning Plan aligned to the K to 12 curriculum.
All the learning activities and course requirements will revolve around
the student-teacher developed Learning Plan.

Course Title: Fil. 101 – Introduksyon sa Pag-aaral ng Wika
Course Description: Tumatalakay sa mag teoryang (sikolohikal, sosyolohikal,
antropolohikal, linggwistika, atbp.) na nakaiimpluwensya sa
pagkatuto ng wika.

Course Title: Fil. 102 – Panimulang Linggwistika


Course Description: Nagbibigay-diin sa mga batayang kaalaman at makaagham na pag-
aaral ng wika.

Course Title: Fil. 103 – Ang Filipino sa Kurikulum ng Batayang Edukasyon


Course Description: Tumatalakay sa mga batayang teoretikal, nilalaman, katangian at
panuntunan sa pagpapatupad ng nireestrakturang kurikulum sa
Filipino. Iniaangkop ang kurikulum sa mga kondisyon at sitwasyong
lokal.

Course Title: Fil. 104 - Estraktura ng Wikang Filipino


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa deskriptibong pag-aaral ng wikang Filipino sa lebel
ng ponolohiya, morpolohiya, semantiks at sintaks.

Course Title: Fil. 105 – Pagtuturo at Pagtataya ng Makrong Kasaynayang

Course Description: Tumatalakay sa mga teorya, simulain, mga metodo ng pagtuturo at
mga uri/pamamaraan sa pagtataya ng mga kasanayan sa pakikinig,
pagsasalita, pagbasa, pagsulat, at panonood na gumagamit ng iba’t
ibang uri ng diskors at gawain.

Course Title: Fil. 106 – Ugnayan ng Wika, Kultura, at Lipunan


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa malalim na kabatiran sa kahalagahan ng ugnayan
ng wika, kultura, at lipunan na nagpapalakas at nagpapatibay ng
pagka-Pilipino na makakatulong sa makabuluhang pagtuturo at
pagkatuto.

Course Title: Fil. 107 – Paghahanda at Ebalwasyon ng Kagamitang Panturo


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa pag-aaral ng mga teorya, simulain, pamaraan,
paggamit at ebalwasyon ng kagamitang panturo kasama ang mga
kagamitan para sa alternatibong pagtuturo at pagkatuto gayundin
ang paggamit ng teknolohiya.

Course Title: Fil. 108 – Introkduksyon sa Pagsasalin


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa pag-aaral ng mga teorya, simulain at teknik sa
pagsasalin ng mga tekstong literari at di-literari.

Course Title: Fil. 109 – Introduksyon sa Pananaliksik-Wika at Panitikan


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa mga batayang kaalaman, sa mga lawak, uri at
metodo ng pananaliksik sa wika at panitikan, na maglulundo sa
paghahanda at paghaharap ng isang sulating pananaliksik (research
report).

Course Title: Fil. 110 – Introduksyon sa Pamamahayag


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa mga batayang kaalaman sa pamamahayag at
paglilinang ng mga kasanayan sa pagsulat ng iba’t ibang uri at anyo
ng sulating jornalistik, kasama na rito ang paghahanda at
pamamahala ng pahayagang pampaaralan.

Course Title: Fil. 112 – Mga Natatanging Diskurso sa Wika at Panitikan


Course Description: Pagsusuri sa mga piling diskursong pangwika at pampanitikan sa
konteksto ng Lipunang Pilipino. Pagtukoy sa mga konsepto at isyung
pangwika at pamapanitikan at kahalagahan at kaugnayan ng mga ito
sa akademiko at di-akademikong gawain at karanasan ng mga mag-
aaral na Pilipino.
Course Title: Lit.101 – Panitikan ng Rehiyon
Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa pag-aaral ng mga pangunahing akda sa mga
rehiyonal na wika. Maaaring orihinal o salin sa Filipino ang mga
tekstong susuriin at pagpapahalagang kultural. (Magbabago-bago
ayon sa local ng TEI’s at walang duplikasyon sa panitikang rehiyon
na bahagi ng GEC – Lit 1).

Course Title: Lit. 2 – Kulturang Popular


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa pag-aaral at pagsusuri ng iba’t ibang kulturang
popular, e.g. pelikula, musika, komiks at pahayagan, mga
programang panradyo, pantelebisyon na nakakaimpluwensya sa
paghubog ng kamalayan at kaakuhan o identidad.

Course Title: Lit. 3 – Sanaysay at Talumpati


Course Description: Pag-aaral at pagpapahalaga ng pangkasaysayang pag-unlad ng
sanaysay at talumpati na kaagapay ang pagsulat ng mga
kontemporaryong anyo nito, pati na ang pagsasanay sa pagsulat at
pagbigkas ng talumpati. Tumutukoy din sa pag-aaral ng
kontemporaryong dulog at metodo sa pagtuturo ng iba’t ibang anyo
ng panitikan upang makabuo ng angkop na pamamaraan sa
pagtataya ng mga kaalaman at kasanayang natamo.

Course Title: Lit. 104 – Panunuring Pampanitikan


Course Description: Tumatalakay sa mga teorya, simulain at pamamaraanng pagbasa,
interpretasyon at pagsusuri ng panitikan mula sa bagong kritisimo
hanggang sa post modernismo.

Course Title: Lit. 105 – Maikling Kuwento at Nobelang Filipino


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa pag-aaral at pagpapahalaga ng pangkasaysayang
pag-unlad ng maikling kuwento at nobelang Filipino na may
pagbibigay-diin sa mga sangkap at pagkabuo nito.

Course Title: Lit. 106 – Panulaang Filipino


Course Description: Nakatuon sa pag-aaral ng pangkasaysayang pag-unlad ng panulaan
na nagbibigay diin sa mga sangkap ng tula sa pamamagitan ng
pagsusuri sa ilang piling tula at dula na kumakatawan sa bawat
panahon.

Course Title: Lit. 107 – Dulang Filipino


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa pag-aaral at pagtalakay ng pangkasaysayang pag-
unlad ng dulang Filipino na nagbibigay yuon sa mga element at uri
ng dula.

Course Title: Technology for Teaching and Learning 2 (Technology in


Secondary Language Education)
Course Description: TTL 2 is a 3-unit course which will focus on the application, design,
production, utilization, and evaluation of Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) materials for teaching and
learning in Secondary Language (English and Filipino) Education
Programs. The major requirement for this course is an ICT-integrated
and Project-based Learning Plan aligned to the K to 12 curriculum.
All the learning activities and course requirements will revolve around
the student-teacher developed Learning Plan.

Course Title: Elektib – Malikhaing Pagsulat


Course Description: Sumasaklaw sa kursong ito sa pag-aaral sa mga simulain,
pamamaraan at proseso ng malikhaing pagsulat sa Filipino at ang
aplikasyon ng mga ito sa pagbubuo ng masining at malikhaing anyo
ng sulatin at akdang pampanitikan.
Course Title: Elektib – Pagsasalin sa Iba’t Ibang Disiplina
Course Description: Sumasaklaw ng pagpili ng mga teknik na magagamit sa pagsasalin
sa iba’t ibang disiplina tungo sa pagtuloy na intelektwalisasyon ng
wikang pambansa.
BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION MAJOR IN MATHEMATICS
Course Title: History of Mathematics
Course Description: The course presents the humanistic aspect of mathematics which
provides the historical context and timeline that led to the present
understanding and applications of the different branches of
mathematics.

Course Title: College and Advance Algebra


Course Description: The course builds upon the students’ knowledge on properties of the
real number system, operations on different types of algebraic
expressions, and the solution of various types of equations and
inequalities. The course also covers the prerequisites to trigonometry
and calculus, specifically transcendental and non-transcendental
functions, including the characteristics of their graphs and
applications.

Course Title: Trigonometry


Course Description: The course introduces students to circular and trigonometric
functions, trigonometric identities, and to the polar coordinate
system. The students then apply concepts in these topics to
applications in problem solving.

Course Title: Plane and Solid Geometry


Course Description: The course covers topics on Euclidean Geometry. The topics are
discussed using both the deductive and inductive methods to
conjecture definitions, corollaries, postulates and theorems on plane
and solid geometry.

Course Title: Logic and Set Theory


Course Description: The course is a study of mathematical logic which covers topics such
as propositions, logical operators, rulers of replacement, rules of
inference, algebra of logic and quantifiers. It also includes a
discussion of elementary theory sets such as fundamental concepts
of sets, set theorems and set operations.

Course Title: Elementary Statistics and Probability


Course Description: The course equips the students with the basic statistical tools to
understand various phenomena. The topics on mean, variance,
sampling, and estimation eventually allow the students to be able to
perform hypothesis testing on real-life problems from different fields.
The course includes applications and data analysis with
computations carried out using SPSS.

his writings, particularly the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT)


This is a three (3) unit modular course which focuses on the understanding of concepts, the
acquisition of basic skills and attitudes related to the various Information and Communication
Technologies. The course covers concepts and skills aimed at providing students with basic
literacy on current ICTs including internet and other telecommunication and network-based
technologies and their utilization for research, communication, publishing, productivity, teaching,
and learning. The course is delivered through a combination of lecture and laboratory activities.

ASTRONOMY
A course for non-science majors covering the various motions observed in the heavens and the
fundamental physical laws that govern them. The course also includes a discussion of the
theories behind the formation of the solar system and other astronomical bodies.

The course offers a broader and deeper understanding of Mathematical principles needed by
any prospective teacher of mathematics. It highlights the integration of geometric and algebraic

Course Title: PE 1: Physical Activities Toward Health and Fitness 1
(PATHFit 1): Movement Competency Training
Course Description: This course reintroduces the fundamental movement patterns
that consist of non-locomotor and locomotor skills, which are
reintegrated with core training to meet the demands of
functional fitness and physical activity performance. Emphasis
will be on exercise regression and progression for the
enhancement of fitness and the adaptation of movement
competencies to independent physical activity pursuits. In
conjunction with fitness and wellness concepts, exercise and
healthy eating principles, periodic evaluation will be conducted
of one’s level of fitness and physical activity, as well as eating
patterns to monitor one’s progress and achievement of
personal fitness and dietary goals.

(PATHFit 2): Exercise-based Fitness Activities
Course Description: This course builds on the foundation of motor skills achieved
through core training. It will provide experiences in a variety of
exercise programs for the purpose of maintaining and
enhancing cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal fitness (i.e.,
core stability, muscle strength, endurance and power). It
includes speed and agility training with a focus on body
coordination and balance. In conjunction with fitness and
wellness concepts, exercise and healthy eating principles,
learners will be able to enhance their fitness through goal
setting and application of the exercise principles (i.e.,
frequency, intensity, time, type, progression, and volume);
adapt their movement competencies to independent physical
activity (PA) pursuits and periodically evaluate their PA and
eating patterns to monitor their progress and achievement of
personal fitness and dietary goals.

(1) Sample Sport - Basketball


Course Description: Basketball is a game played by two teams who score points by
getting the ball into the opposing team’s hoop or basket.
Players move the ball by dribbling and passing. This course
tackles the fundamental skills of the sport that include footwork,
ball control (dribbling, passing, shooting), individual moves
(offense and defense), basic team offense and defense.
Through skills training, game play and independent pursuits of
physical activity (PA), fitness levels will be enhanced. PA and
eating habits are also periodically evaluated to monitor one’s
progress and achievement of personal fitness and dietary
goals.

(2) Sample Martial Arts - Taekwondo


Course Description: Taekwondo is a Korean martial art turned modern Olympic
sport emphasizing kicking techniques from a mobile stance.
The course provides instruction and practice in the differing
techniques necessary for white-belt degree for the learner to
experience taekwondo as a combination of sport, exercise,
self-defense and/or combat, and philosophy. Through
taekwondo, the course:
1. Challenges one’s current capabilities through
developmentally appropriate physical activity (PA)
experiences for the improvement and maintenance of
fitness levels;
2. Provides game situations and/or sparring sessions for the
adaptation, transfer and improvisation of movement
skills, sporting techniques and tactics;
3. Periodically evaluates one’s PA and eating habits as
bases for personal and goal-setting, planning and
participation in self-directed PAs;
4. Provides opportunities for success through
developmentally competitive experiences.

(3) Sample Outdoor and Adventure Activities


Course Description: This course on recreational activities are associated with
outdoor, natural or semi-natural settings that include but are
not limited to land navigation (e.g. orienteering), camping and
mountaineering (e.g. hiking/trekking). These activities enable
the learners to move safely (includes first aid) and competently
in such settings by building a positive relationship with the
environment and promoting their sustainable use (e.g. Leave
No Trace Principles).
The course (1) provides moderate-to-vigorous physical activity
(PA) experiences for the development of fitness through
outdoor recreational activities; (2) conducts periodic evaluation
of fitness levels; PA and eating habits to monitor one’s
progress and achievement of personal fitness and dietary
goals, and (3) provides recreational leadership opportunities.

(3) Sample Dance Activities – Philippine Traditional Dances


Course Description: Learning Philippine Traditional Dances both provide fitness
benefits and cultural sensitivity. The course introduces the
nature of dance and its fitness benefits. It involves the
fundamental techniques that include movement skills. Through
skills training, exercise drills, dance participation and
independent or self-directed PAs, fitness levels will be
enhanced. In conjunction with this, fitness levels, PA
participation and dietary/eating patterns are evaluated to
monitor one’s progress and achievement of personal fitness
and dietary goals.

Course Title: PE 3
Course Description: This subject deals with the individual and dual games such as
athletics, badminton and table tennis. It also includes the
facilities and equipment the basic skill mechanics and the rules
the different sports.
Course Objectives: At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1. Learn the history, rules, strategies and the players of
athletics, badminton and table tennis.
2. Develop the fundamental skills through participation, and
3. Develop desirable social attributes among student toward
the game.
4. Demonstrate leadership in performing the different games.

Course Title: PE 4
Course Description: This course deals with the higher form of competitive motor
play. Three (3) or more participants play showing their skills
and strategies and observing rules and regulations. This
course also aims to let the participants feel the joy and
satisfaction through team effort.
