Exploring Career Pathways: The Relationship of Career Counseling Interventions on the Decision-Making

Process of Graduating Grade 12 ABM Students in Pacita Complex Senior High School

The Department of Education has already prepared the possible Curriculum Exit for the graduating Senior
High School as a Career Guidance Program (DO 41, s. 2015) that will determine their career decision. Aligned with
the Curriculum Exit, various studies examine which Curriculum Exit is most preferred by graduating Senior High School
students. However, upon focusing on such an idea, there is an underlying factor that is being disregarded in most of
the studies, the relationship of Career Counselling Interventions to the student's chosen career pathway.
Although many studies have examined the factors of career decisions of many graduating Grade 12 students,
there is a lack of research discussing the relationship of Career Counselling Interventions to the career choices of the
students. This research gap limits the understanding of how this kind of counseling will directly affect the successful
career decision-making of graduating Senior High School students. Therefore, this study aims to explore how Career
Counselling Interventions will impose success in determining the suitable career pathway for the graduating Grade 12
ABM students of Pacita Complex Senior High School.

The study aims to answer the following Research Questions:

1. What percentage of the population of graduating Grade 12 ABM students received Career Counselling
Intervention?
2. What percentage of the population of graduating Grade 12 ABM students have not yet received Career
Counselling Intervention?
3. What is the student’s confidence level in their career decisions?
4. What is the level of effectiveness of Career Counselling Interventions in having constructive career decisions?
5. How most likely the Career Counselling Interventions affect the career decisions of the graduating Grade 12
ABM students?

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES:

• Measure whether students who receive career counseling are more likely to make informed and satisfying
career decisions compared to those who do not receive such interventions.
• Establish the level of confidence that the students have in their career decisions.
• Determine the level of effectiveness of Career Counselling Interventions in having constructive career
decisions.

RESEARCH SETTING AND RESPONDENTS:

The presented quantitative research will be conducted within the facility of Pacita Complex Senior High
School. The target participants of this study are selected students from graduating Grade 12 ABM of the school year
2022 - 2023 in the said school setting.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:
Career guidance helps students in choosing careers that suit their interests, aptitude, and abilities as it
enhances their confidence and empowers them to make decisions regarding the selection of courses after completion
of their school education or graduation (The Academic City, n.d). This contributes to why this area of the study needs
to be tackled. Senior High School students are sometimes uncertain about what career pathway they will take venture,
especially since they have a variety of choices given by the Department of Education in terms of the Curriculum Exit.
Sometimes, having a lack of knowledge is one of the contributors to being undecided because they do not have a
background of the available career pathways. For that reason, Career Counseling Interventions must become as it
makes the students more informed of the various careers waiting for them.
Accordingly, Development Asia in 2018 states that career guidance achieves three goals: lifelong learning;
improved labor market outcomes, including reducing mismatches between labor supply and demand; and social equity
and social inclusions. Career advise - and counseling supports the aspirations of young people from poor and
disadvantaged backgrounds in attaining stable employment. This theory contributes to the objective of the Department
of Education, which is to prepare students during their Senior High School for possible employment. Thus, this is a
piece of useful information that supports the Career Counseling Interventions' effectiveness for the career decisions of
the graduating Grade 12 ABM students of Pacita Complex Senior High School.
Lastly, as Career Counseling Interventions provide career readiness, students can gain considerable
confidence to tackle real-life scenarios in any setting, especially in the workplace (Indeed, 2022). Confidence is
essential for a successful career. It can help professionals resolve conflicts better, improve communication, increase
satisfaction, and build professional relationships. The right attitude and confidence can help a student successfully
apply for school applications and interviews for jobs and help them communicate better about their abilities and
expectations with the interviewer. Therefore, this can help the researchers prove that being ready and informed in
various career pathways provides positive confidence that will drive the students to a more favorable setting.
