Background Information
Many applications utilize transducers to provide system feedback to the drive. Typically, the signal
produced by the transducer is the feedback value for a PID loop. Many users also desire to use the
transducer to automatically start and stop the drive.
My Function logic programming is required to perform automatic starting and stopping from an analog
signal. Besides choosing the start and stop points, the direction of operation will change the programming.
If the application was a pump on a tank, then this would be the difference between draining and filling the
tank.
Most transducers in industry output a 4 to 20 milliamp signal. The wiring of the transducer will change if
the transducer is externally powered or drive powered. Transducers could also be 0-10VDC or 0-5VDC, and
wired to the VIA analog input terminal.

System Characteristics

The following table identifies all characteristics of the system that are necessary to complete the
programming setup. This programming is only for the run command and stop command for the drive. The
user will still need to program a frequency command (fmod) or configure a PID loop (App Note 2.1.0).
The range for the start and stop point delay times is 0.01 to 600.00 seconds.
Complete the table below to populate the New Value column of the programming table in Step C.

System Information

Transducer Units PSI

Transducer Signal Type 4-20mA

Transducer Minimum Process Value 0.00 PSI

Transducer Maximum Process Value 100.00 PSI

Direction of Operation High Value Start, Low Value Stop

High Value Start Process Value 75.00 PSI

Low Value Stop Process Value 25.00 PSI

Start Delay Time 3.00 seconds

Stop Delay Time 3.00 seconds

Note: If a pressure transducer (PSI) is being used to measure water column (’WC) in a water tank, then the
range of the transducer needs to be converted. Enter the maximum process value (PSI) below to convert
to feet of water column (1PSI = 2.3’WC). Then enter the water column value in the table above as the
Transducer Maximum Process Value. The Minimum Process Value will be 0.

Transducer Conversion

Maximum Pressure 0.00

Feet of Water Column 0.00

My Function can also be programmed through the ASD Pro computer software. This provides a visual flow of
the function blocks in each unit. The Logic My Function Setting window is available under the Start Up
Menu. Enable the program by selecting the Always On radio button, and program Virtual Terminal #1
through the terminal list.

My Function Units 1 and 2 will configure the start command.

Verification & Troubleshooting

After programming the options appropriate for the application, verify the desired operation.
This program only configures the drive start command. Make sure that the frequency command or PID
loop is also configured prior to testing. Set basic parameter fmod to 0: Setting Dial if the speed will be
controlled by the keypad.
If the drive does not operate as desired, verify the programming and wiring.
Note: The programming tables are broken down in four sections. If the VFD starts, but doesn’t stop,
then verify the parameters in the Stopping Parameters table. If the VFD doesn’t start, then verify the
parameters in the Starting Parameters table. Always verify the Configuration Parameters.
After verifying programming and wiring, contact Toshiba’s Applications Group at TIC-ASD@toshiba.com or
855-803-7089 for additional assistance.

Troubleshooting the programming:

Use the Changed from Default search function to verify parameter settings

Troubleshooting the wiring:

Monitor Mode allows for verification of the operation of the analog inputs. By default, the Monitor Mode
does not display the signal percentage for the analog inputs. This can be viewed by setting a monitor item
to display the value as a percentage.
