RE: Unrecorded Leave – Deepavali 2023

The Director General of Public Service, Datuk Dr Zulkapli Mohamed announced that the government
has agreed for the unrecorded leave for Deepavali to be moved to Tuesday, 14 th November 2023.

Briefly, the government, back in 2018, agreed to provide an additional day off for Hindu civil servants
on the day immediately after the Deepavali public holiday. This means that the Hindu civil servants
will have 2 days off for Deepavali celebrations.

Since this year’s Deepavali falls on Sunday, 12th November 2023, the next working day, i.e. Monday,
13th November 2023 will be the replacement day for those observing their rest days on Sundays. This
announcement basically confirms that Tuesday, 14 th November 2023 has been declared as the
additional unrecorded leave only for Hindu civil servants.

Please note that the above is only applicable to civil servants. It is not applicable to private sector
employees unless your Company wishes to observe the same.
