Course Instructor Dr Bhavana Arora Asst. Professor R.E.C Sonbhadra Theme Presentation: Methods Theme Presentation
People who are typically experts in a given area are invited to
speak at a conference, convention, meeting, or other such kind of event for the purpose of setting a specific tone for the occasion. It is a technical lecture, which refers to the principal and underlying theme of the larger idea on which the event is organized. When you give an expert lecture or are presenting theme, you are setting the tone and mood for an event, creating a mental environment for the successful conduction of the program. Need or Significance
A theme lecture is inspirational and unifying for its audience.
It prepares the audience mentally to receive the further information and participate in the program purposefully. The speaker should be able to capture the essence of the theme and be able to highlight it to the audience in a short period of time. Giving such presentation is a major responsibility, but when done well, it can make the audience feel empowered and excited. Theme Presentation Methodology
When you’re given an indication of what the theme of your
technical lecture should be, you should have some serious planning to do regarding the theme of your lecture. To write a good theme lecture, you should start by identifying the purpose and audience. Then, you can construct a speech that is entertaining and well structured. 1. Identifying the Purpose
There are three basic purposes: educational, motivational and
entertaining. Whatever is the purpose of presentation lecture, which you want to accomplish, always remember that you’re to offer value to your audience, not to brag about who you are or what you’ve done. 2. Know your Audience
What are their interests, likes and dislikes?
Are they familiar with the topic? What’s the size of the group? Age range? Background? Gender distribution? Audience can be as: Primary-decision makers or opinion moulders Secondary-followers 3. Exposition of the Theme
Select a core message that you want to convey, based on your
theme. Make sure that it contains: Clarity: Aim to express your core message in a single sentence. Passion: Your core message must be something you believe in. Knowledge: What do you know about this core message? Can you draw stories from personal experience? Have you researched the topic? 4. Do your Research
Do not take your knowledge for granted.
Double-check your facts. Also, look for recent developments and include any relevant updates to your material. Pay special attention to information that’ll be useful to your listeners. 5. Create a Lecture Outline
Structuring your ideas is essential to both– the design and the
delivery. An outline is a blueprint for your lecture. It highlights the key logical elements i.e. what points are being made to logically support the core message? It highlights the key structural elements– introduction, body, conclusion, stories, high-level concepts. 6. Organization
Split the presentation into three parts– Introduction, body,
conclusion. If your speech is nothing but statistics, the audience may not be much interested in your speech. Theme presentation should have a variety: stories about real people, examples from history, metaphors, interesting numbers, new ideas, and other exciting moments to keep the audience engaged. Any sort of repetition must have a purpose. 7. Give Illustrations and Visuals
Using visual elements is helpful in illustrating your ideas.
Graphs and charts can help show relationships, comparisons and change. Make sure to use these visual graphics only to enhance your message and increase understanding. Too much of anything can lead to over stimulating your audience and losing their attention. Summing Up
