MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD

Directions: Write a reaction paper minimum of 150 words.

Fibonacci numbers do appear in nature often enough to prove they reflect some
naturally occurring patterns. Many seed heads, pinecones, fruits and vegetables which
display patterns and counted express Fibonacci numbers.

The two videos titled “nature by numbers” and “Gods Fingerprint – The Universe”
tells about the beauty pf nature and examine the relationship of numbers in pattern. It
describe the natures beauty in a mathematical way. Furthermore, from the beginning of
the video in the “nature by numbers” the numbers started from 0 then added by 1
equals to 2 and so on. The numbers shows pattern, a pattern which term are increasing
because the number to be added is increasing in a predictable way. As I thought pattern
are used in organizing and decorating designs but it can also used in nature. A pattern
where shows up everywhere in nature including flowers, seashell, dragonfly where
shown in the video and determined as a Fibonacci sequence. Fibonacci sequence is an
infinite sequence where it has a definite numbers which form a pattern.

In conclusion, as a person/student I now realize that we can also use

mathematics to think about the world and nature and also to appreciate the beauty of
nature in mathematics.
