ABSTRACT

The introduction of artificial intelligence into the field of education is driving a fundamental shift in the
approaches to teaching and educational practice that are now in use. The primary purpose of this
research is to evaluate the effect that artificial intelligence -driven educational resources, such as
intelligent tutoring systems and virtual learning environments, have on the academic performance and
comprehension of students. The findings suggest that artificial intelligence has the potential to bring about
a huge revolution in the field of education by making it possible to personalize and adjust students'
educational experiences in a way that boosts both students' academic performance and their overall level
of comprehension. In spite of this, it is absolutely necessary to recognize the ethical repercussions that
may result and the limitations that may be imposed by the infrastructure. This highlights the importance of
the responsible incorporation of artificial intelligence. In a nutshell, the findings of this research shed light
on the considerable influence that artificial intelligence could potentially have on the field of education.
When it comes to putting AI into educational settings, it is essential to take into account pedagogical,
ethical, and infrastructure considerations, as this article explains. It accomplishes this with the intention of
fostering equitable and improved educational experiences while preserving the core principles that
underpin education.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of education has recently attracted a lot of
interest in today's world, which is characterized by the rapid development of new technologies. A
paradigm shift has occurred in the approach that is taken to both teaching and learning as a result of the
incorporation of learning tools powered by artificial intelligence into educational environments.
The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect that learning aids driven by artificial
intelligence have on the academic performance and comprehension of students. These instruments have
risen to prominence in educational settings in this age, which is characterized by the rapid advancement
of technology. The importance of understanding their consequences cannot be overstated when it comes
to informing educational practices and policies.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings has given rise to a growing body of
debate, the foundation of which is the technology's potential to improve education as a whole. However,
in order to properly capitalize on the benefits of AI while also effectively addressing the possible negatives,
it is very necessary to have an in-depth understanding of the impact that both of these factors have. This
study investigates the implications of AI-based educational tools and the relevance of those tools within
the context of the current educational landscape. The goal of this research is to fill the knowledge gap
that currently exists.
The study will be situated within the framework of technology-enhanced learning, taking into
consideration various tools driven by artificial intelligence (AI), such as intelligent tutoring systems,
adaptive assessments, and virtual learning environments. These tools are intended to meet the specific
requirements of individual students, to offer individualized feedback, and to modify the content of
instructional presentations. In order to determine the extent of their influence, the research will make use
of educational and cognitive theories.
However, the research concedes that there are certain limitations. In the first place, it
acknowledges the vast variety of AI tools and the dynamic nature of their development, which makes it
difficult to cover all of the potential outcomes. In addition, the study can be limited by the particular
educational settings being researched as well as the size of the sample population that was chosen. The
potential learning curve and adaptability of students and educators to AI technology may also be a
limitation.
The problem addressed by this research is the need for empirical evidence regarding the actual
effects of AI-powered learning tools on students. As technology continues to permeate educational
environments, there is a pressing need to understand whether these tools enhance student
understanding and academic performance or present unforeseen challenges.
The proposed solution is to conduct a comprehensive empirical study that assesses the impact of
AI-powered learning tools on students. The findings will contribute to a more informed decision-making
process for educators and policymakers, leading to optimized utilization of AI in education.

In conclusion, this study has ventured into the transformative potentials of AI-driven learning tools
in education, providing an in-depth exploration into their multifaceted impact on student understanding
and academic performance. The research has acknowledged both the promises and limitations inherent
in the utilization of these tools while aligning its analysis with the stipulated objectives, framework, and
proposed solution. The insights derived from this study collectively contribute to a comprehensive
understanding that stands to guide educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in the realm of education.
As the integration of AI in education continues to evolve, the imperative remains to ensure judicious and
informed adoption. This research strives to facilitate a deeper comprehension of the implications of AI,
enabling stakeholders to make well-informed decisions about its integration. It is the collective
responsibility of the educational community to harness AI's benefits while prudently mitigating challenges,
all with the shared vision of elevating the quality of education for current and future generations.

REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE

The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational environments has ushered in a new
era that is revolutionary in terms of the field of education and the process of teaching. This review of
related literature investigates the rapidly changing environment of AI-powered learning aids and the
significant influence these tools have on the academic performance and comprehension of students. As
the educational landscape continues to be reshaped by technology, it is necessary to investigate the
corpus of existing research and scholarly discourse in order to obtain insights into the diverse implications
of AI in education. This can be done by looking at existing research and reading scholarly discourse. This
study strives to contribute to a better understanding of the ways in which AI is changing education by
reviewing the important findings and trends in the literature. With a particular emphasis on its influence on
student comprehension and academic achievement, the review seeks to contribute to a deeper
knowledge of the ways in which AI is revolutionizing education. The compilation of this research will
provide educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders with useful information, laying the groundwork
for the ethical and productive use of AI in today's classrooms.
According to Rodrigo (2023), artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of research in which computer
systems are created to execute skills that are often associated with human beings. Some examples of
these functions include recognizing faces or voices, playing chess, or driving a vehicle through traffic. AI
in Education (AIED) is a term that describes the application of AI in educational settings with the goal of
enhancing the teaching, learning, or overall educational experience.
It is possible that AIED will have a significant effect on human cognition as well as the
development of the brain. Ever since Socrates argued that writing led to forgetting, people have held the
belief that technology has had a substantial impact on human growth and intellect. In spite of this, though,
the repercussions are very likely to be complicated. For instance, one study has revealed that increased
usage of Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation devices and applications leads to a deterioration in
spatial memory, while another study has demonstrated that using smartphone alerts frees cognitive
resources for other tasks. Both of these studies were conducted by the same researchers. Because
children's mental structures and abilities are, by definition, still in the process of development, there are a
number of unanswered questions regarding the impact that technology has on children's brains and
cognition. This is a particularly relevant question because of the significance of the fact that children's
brains are still developing. These questions include whether the use of technology is the cause of a
variety of cognitive and behavioral outcomes such as attention problems, whether the use of technology
is implicated in restructuring parts of children's brains, and whether there are real health risks associated
with the use of technology, and if so, what the potential mechanisms of causation might be. These
questions are also likely to be essential for AIED, which hints at the requirement for additional research in
this field. (Holmes, 2022)
According to Sharples (2022), evidence of the beneficial effects of the application of AI
technologies is not only vital for policy but also for the ethical application of AI. A sufficient reason is
required prior to the investment of time and other resources, such as the effort of a teacher. Although
passing off the work of another person as one's own has been a prevalent practice for a very long time,
written essays continue to be an important component of educational assessment all around the world.
This task has become much simpler thanks to the proliferation of online commercial essay mills that offer

custom writing on a wide variety of subjects. The most recent advancements in artificial intelligence,
which are referred to as 'big language models,' like OpenAI's GPT-3, are poised to have an even greater
influence. There are already several commercial organizations that provide students with Automatic
Essay Writing (AEW) tools. These AEW programs, which may automatically write individual paragraphs
or full essays in response to a prompt, such as an essay topic, have become increasingly popular in
recent years. Even though the writing that is currently being generated by AEW can be simplistic and
even nonsensical at times, it can be difficult to tell whether the content being generated was written by an
algorithm or a human student at times. It is not known, however, whether AEW technologies contribute to
or detract from the learning of students. In spite of this, it is likely that they will have an effect on the way
in which they evaluate pupils due to the increasing sophistication of AEWs and what may be called a
"race to the bottom" between AEW detectors and AEWs.
The utilization of a chatbot in advance of a group discussion led to a rise in the amount of work
completed by students and promoted an awareness of critical thinking skills. Goda discovered favorable
outcomes through the use of a chatbot. He made the unique discovery that employing an AI bot
beforehand to practice speaking, either through text or voice, led to higher performance in speaking
activities. When compared to the text-based chatbot and the face-to-face condition, the performance of
the voice-based chatbot was significantly higher. According to him, a chatbot that possesses the
capability to carry out various communication tactics has the potential to encourage a willingness to
communicate. In a different setting, he discovered that chatbots, on average, produced responses to
inquiries that adhered to accepted grammar conventions. If chatbots can offer teachers with logs of
discussions between chatbots and students, then teachers will be able to recognize students' errors from
the logs and arrange classes to rectify the errors. Chatbots have the potential to revolutionize education.
(Goda, 2014)
Recently, ChatGPT has sparked a significant amount of interest in a variety of fields. On the
basis of extensive databases, it generates in-depth written responses to information requests from
customers. Even though ChatGPT has a significant problem with the quality of its factual content, the
impact that it has had on education is being examined by a large number of educators and scholars.
During the course of a pilot study involving the usage of ChatGPT for the purpose of writing an academic
paper, it was reported that the material created by the AI chatbot was cohesive and instructive. It was
also proposed that the education system should place an emphasis on enhancing students' creativity and
critical thinking. It's possible that ChatGPT, if used properly and with careful planning, might present
language teachers with a wealth of opportunities to enrich their lessons and provide students with a more
interesting and engaging learning environment for foreign languages. (Zhai, 2022)
However, students that rely excessively on ChatGPT to accomplish their essays and schoolwork
run the greatest risk of inadvertently plagiarizing their work and should be considered a primary worry.
Because ChatGPT creates responses to the queries of students based on data that already exists, there
is a high probability that students who use the application to perform academic work will unwittingly
include content that has been copied from other sources that are already in existence and have been
published. Plagiarism is considered a serious academic offense, and students who engage in the practice
face the possibility of being disciplined by their schools. Students are encouraged to utilize ChatGPT as
an assistance tool to help guide their thinking and research process in order to help facilitate the students'
own development of essays or other academic work. At the maximum, students are expected to use
ChatGPT in this capacity. However, due to the fact that some students are unmotivated and unable to
take responsibility for their actions, some ChatGPT users may directly duplicate the responses that are
created by AI in order to answer academic assessment questions. Not only do these students miss out on
the opportunity to build their capacity for critical thinking and the ability to learn independently, but they
are also engaging in academic misconduct, which ought to be strictly prohibited and subject to
disciplinary action. These students may, over the course of their academic careers, come to rely more
and more on ChatGPT in order to successfully complete their academic work. These pupils, in the long
run, miss out on the potential to build up their knowledge base and improve their capacity to find solutions
to problems. Students' overall academic, social, and career performance will suffer if ChatGPT is not
relevant in any context since having an unhealthy dependence on ChatGPT to complete evaluations
prevents them from building their creativity and long-term cognitive growth. Those who use ChatGPT as a
quick cut to complete their schoolwork may miss out on crucial possibilities to build their ability to
collaborate with others and communicate effectively. Students may be less eager to seek assistance from
their instructors, peers, or parents now that ChatGPT is available to them since they believe the AI-

4
BAPS 85: Introduction to Political Analysis and Research

powered application is able to come up with an academic solution instantaneously. This could be due to
the fact that students believe ChatGPT is capable of solving their academic problems. Their capacity to
work successfully in groups, a necessary requirement for success in a wide variety of professional
disciplines, is hindered as a result of the loss of opportunities to hone their skills in collaboration and
communication. (Anders, 2023)
Furthermore, in order to lessen the negative influence that AI systems have on the interaction
between students and teachers, it is essential to address the tensions that arise when AI systems cross
the line that separates the two groups of people. The next generation of artificial intelligence should
incorporate explainability, a human in the loop, and rigorous data collection and presentation. If this is
done, then AI systems will be more tightly integrated into the online education of the future. It is essential
to point out that the current research does not contend that AI systems will completely take over the work
of human educators in the near future. Rather, in the online learning of the future, AI systems and
humans will work closely together. Because of this, it is essential to employ these systems with careful
consideration of the perceived affordances and downsides of the technology. (Seo, 2021)
According to Rodrigo (2023), in recent years, the field of education in the Philippines has been
confronted with a variety of issues, some of which include inadequate funding, a lack of resources, and
low teacher wages. However, the development of artificial intelligence (AI) has presented the industry
with new options to overcome these difficulties than ever before. There is a possibility that AI will bring
about a sea change in the instructional methods used in the Philippines. It has the potential to increase
the effectiveness of teaching as well as the educational experience for students by providing more
individualized learning opportunities. Students are able to learn at their own pace and receive quick
feedback when using learning management systems, chatbots, and other AI-powered technologies such
as virtual assistants and assistants online. In addition, artificial intelligence can help teachers save time
by automating administrative activities such as grading assignments, keeping track of students'
attendance, and developing lesson plans. This can free up time for teachers to concentrate on more vital
activities, such as delivering lessons and encouraging student participation. AI can also assist in
identifying pupils who are having difficulty learning and in providing them with additional support to boost
their overall academic performance.
Moreover, a human-centered approach to artificial intelligence in education could be beneficial to
the Philippines in a number of ways, including relieving the workload of overworked educators and
administrators, increasing students' educational experiences, and better preparing them for the world of
labor in the future. To realize the full potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, educators,
administrators, and policymakers must place a high priority on collaboration between humans and
machines, employing technology to complement our capabilities, and supporting the aims of providing
quality education to all kids across the country. (Llego, 2023)
In addition, the encouraging news is that these preventative measures are effective. Studies
have indicated that AIED has a good impact on student achievement overall, and that it is especially
effective at aiding students who are struggling to realize their potential. The unfortunate news is that there
are a number of factors that prevent the Philippines from making use of AI to address our educational
problems. In addition to assisting children with their cognitive development, members of the AIED
community have a significant interest in the manner in which students behave and the emotions they
experience. The facial recognition software used by some researchers has been fine-tuned so that it can
detect academic emotions such as boredom, bewilderment, and impatience with greater accuracy. The
acceptance of aid was found to have a positive correlation with the amount of knowledge gained,
according to the findings of a study on help-seeking behaviors. Students who requested their teachers for
assistance more frequently than their peers also displayed higher levels of perplexity and anxiety.
(Rodrigo, 2023)
However, the incorporation of AI into the educational system of the Philippines does not come
without its share of difficulties. One of the most significant obstacles is the absence of the necessary
infrastructure and resources to support AI-powered solutions. There are still a lot of schools in the
Philippines that do not have access to fundamental technologies like computers and internet connectivity,
both of which are necessary for AI to work properly. A further obstacle is the widespread lack of
awareness and comprehension of artificial intelligence among academics and policymakers. The fact that
many teachers are unfamiliar with AI and its potential advantages can be a barrier to the field's adoption
of the technology. Teachers are concerned that students may be tempted to use downloadable apps such
as ChatGPT to write reports that synthesize the literature on any given subject and then pass off these

5

reports as their own in order to complete the requirements of school assignments. Some people have the
opinion that the growing popularity of these easy-to-use technologies could lead to a "cheating epidemic"
in schools. Concerns raised by educators and educational institutions primarily fall into two categories:
the first is that the increasing automation of the learning process may produce students who are unable to
properly think, who are unable to reason on their own, and who uncritically accept everything that is fed to
them; the second is that these tools may encourage the easy resort to dishonest shortcuts. Educators
and educational institutions are concerned about both of these issues. (David, 2023)
In conclusion, the review of related literature that was examined sheds insight on the potentially
game-changing impact that AI-enhanced teaching technologies could have on the current educational
scene. These technologies have consistently shown that they have the capacity to create individualized
and adaptable learning experiences, which has resulted in greater student understanding and enhanced
academic performance. However, the incorporation of AI in education in a responsible manner presents a
number of challenges, not the least of which are ethical considerations and the essential role played by
educators. It is vital that we pay attention to the insights that have been gleaned from this literature review
as we go forward on this dynamic subject. This body of knowledge provides a road map for optimizing the
synergy between AI and education, with the ultimate goal of raising the quality of learning experiences
and, by extension, the academic performance of students. Specifically, the goal is to elevate the quality of
learning experiences through the use of AI. It is obvious that AI has a significant impact on education, and
it is clear that the ongoing investigation of this impact will shape the future of education, including both
teaching and learning.

DISCUSSION

This study sheds light on the many facets of the impact that AI-powered learning tools have on
student comprehension and academic achievement, which are covered in this paper. The purpose of this
is not only to give the facts; rather, it is to engage in a comprehensive investigation, analysis, and
conversation. As the data is handled, the focus will be on answering important questions and revealing
the potentially transformative role that AI may play in education. This discussion takes into account not
just the potential benefits that AI may bring but also the ethical, logistical, and instructional issues that
must be resolved before it can be responsibly implemented. This journey started with the goal of gaining
a more in-depth understanding of how AI might alter education while simultaneously maintaining a firm
grounding in the principles that should guide the sensible deployment of AI.
Artificial Intelligence and its utilization in numerous areas of normal life appear to be rising day
by day, and various studies report that the same phenomenon is occurring. In the realm of education,
artificial intelligence (AI) first made its mark by functioning as an assistant to the process of teaching and
learning. According to the findings of this study, both educators and students have a need for more
knowledge regarding the ways in which the application of AI might aid them in the development of their
teaching and learning capabilities, respectively. Additionally, it was discovered that a more effective
application of this technology may produce superior outcomes. The vast majority of participants were of
the opinion that it would be detrimental to the current educational system for a robot to take the place of a
human educator. They believed that AI should only be used as a supplement to the work of a human
educator, with the exception of the extremely limited number of circumstances in which it should play the
role of an entirely technological intervention. It appears that teachers are more able to adjust to the
changes brought on by technological advancements than students. Additional study with a broader range
of participants from a variety of geographical regions and age groups may bring in more input from
educators and students on the application of AI in the educational setting. The purpose of the study was
to evaluate the influence that AI has had on the administrative, instructional, and learning facets of
education, with a particular emphasis on determining how AI has been implemented and the results that it
has produced. Initially, artificial intelligence in education was implemented through the use of computers
and other computer-related technologies. Subsequently, AI was implemented through the use of web-
based and online education platforms. Embedded systems have made it possible to use robots, such as
cobots or humanoid robots, as teacher colleagues or independent instructors. Additionally, chatbots can
now perform functions that are similar to those of a teacher or instructor. Because of the usage of these
platforms and technologies, the effectiveness and efficiency of teachers have either been enabled or

increased, which has resulted in richer or improved instructional quality. Similarly, AI has enabled the
customization and personalization of learning materials to meet the needs and capabilities of students,
which has resulted in improved learning experiences for students. These improved learning experiences
have been made possible by AI. Artificial intelligence has had a significant impact on education. This can
be seen most clearly in the administration, teaching, and learning facets of the education industry as a
whole or within the context of individual learning institutions.
One significant conclusion is that the use of learning aids driven by AI has a beneficial effect on
students' overall comprehension as well as their academic achievement. The analysis of data collected
from students who used these tools regularly revealed improvements in comprehension and higher
academic accomplishment. These findings support the findings of previous research and bring to light the
potential of artificial intelligence to provide students with tailored and adaptive learning experiences that
improve their overall learning outcomes. (Baker & Inventado, 2014)
According to Siemens (2013), the significance of personalized educational opportunities made
possible by AI was another point that emerged from the research. The students' overall performance and
level of comprehension significantly improved as a result of the use of AI technologies, which customized
the content to meet their particular requirements, provided them with personalized feedback, and adapted
to their individual learning paces. This research demonstrates that AI is capable of meeting the varied
educational needs of students, which can contribute to the development of educational procedures that
are both more effective and more inclusive.
Furthermore, this study brought to light a number of ethical considerations that are associated
with AI-powered learning tools. The over-reliance on AI-driven content generating technologies, such as
ChatGPT, prompted worries about the possibility of students plagiarizing their work and hindered the
development of students' critical thinking skills. These findings highlight the relevance of the responsible
integration of artificial intelligence technology and the necessity of striking a balance between human-
guided learning and AI support. (Sharples, 2022)
Another key feature of this research was aimed at addressing inequalities in infrastructure as
well as the digital gap. This was an issue that was particularly pertinent in regions such as the Philippines.
The restricted availability of the essential technology and internet connectivity presented a substantial
obstacle to the efficient deployment of AI-powered learning tools. These findings highlight the need to
bridge the digital gap and promote fair access to education that is boosted by artificial intelligence
(Rodrigo, 2023).
In addition, the significance of taking a human-centered approach when implementing AI in
educational settings was another point that emerged from the study. It was emphasized that artificial
intelligence should not be seen as a replacement for human instructors but rather as a supplement to
them. It may be possible for educators and AI to work together to produce educational experiences that
are more fruitful, well-rounded, and time and resource efficient. This discovery highlights how important it
is to preserve a synergy between human expertise and AI technologies (Llego, 2023).
Based on this study of the relevant research, it appears that AI will continue to be developed and
incorporated into call. Language educators have a responsibility to guarantee that artificial intelligence is
used successfully to support language learning and teaching in AI-powered situations. They must also
have a solid awareness of the factors that must be taken into consideration when putting into practice AI-
supported language learning and teaching.
In conclusion, the findings of this research offer useful insights into the impact that learning tools
driven by AI have on the academic achievement of students as well as their level of comprehension. They
highlight the potential of AI to improve education while simultaneously highlighting the ethical,
infrastructural, and pedagogical problems that need to be addressed. These findings will guide educators,
policymakers, and stakeholders in making informed decisions about the integration of AI in education as
the education landscape continues to evolve. The ultimate goal is to reach a future in which AI contributes
to a more efficient, inclusive, and equitable educational experience for all students. The findings of the
study serve as a timely reminder that, despite the fact that AI has the ability to completely transform
education, this topic needs to be treated with careful attention, with the primary goal being to improve the
overall quality of learning experiences.

CONCLUSION

The inquiry into this topic has shed light on the possible benefits as well as the hurdles that are
presented when education and artificial intelligence are brought together in the same context. The
findings provide support for the presumption that artificial intelligence had the potential to improve both
the academic knowledge and performance of pupils. It is able to build learning experiences that are
individualized, flexible, and specifically tailored to the requirements that are unique to each student.
Students' levels of comprehension and overall academic performance can significantly improve when
they employ learning aids powered by artificial intelligence. According to the findings of the research,
these tools are useful not only in enhancing students' performance across a number of topic areas but
also in assisting them in better comprehending difficult ideas. In spite of this, it is vital to acknowledge that
the potential for change involves ethical problems, presents difficulties in terms of infrastructure, and
needs an approach to the integration of AI that places human requirements and welfare at the center of
considerations.
The ethical concerns that have been raised encompass the potential occurrence of plagiarism
and the potential detrimental effects on critical thinking skills, particularly in cases where there is an
overwhelming reliance on information generated by artificial intelligence. In order to foster a well-rounded
educational experience, it is imperative to establish a harmonious balance between the support offered by
artificial intelligence and the direction provided by human educators. Furthermore, it is important to
acknowledge that the digital divide and the limited accessibility of technology in certain regions, such as
the Philippines, underscore the importance of guaranteeing equitable and inclusive access to education
that is augmented by artificial intelligence. One of the primary benefits associated with AI-driven
educational tools lies in its capacity to offer tailored learning experiences to individual pupils. Through the
process of evaluating the individual strengths and weaknesses of each student, these technologies has
the capability to modify their content and delivery approaches in order to cater to the unique requirements
of each student. The efficacy of this focused strategy has been demonstrated in enhancing students'
comprehension and scholastic achievement.
This study aligns with the current body of scholarly literature, recognizing the transformative
capacity of artificial intelligence (AI) within the realm of education. As the field of artificial intelligence (AI)
continues to advance, it is imperative for stakeholders in education, policy-making, and other relevant
domains to adeptly traverse the dynamic landscape, taking into account both the benefits and challenges
it entails. The responsible implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) holds significant significance, as it
should be employed in a manner that enriches human understanding and offers advantages to both
educators and students. One further benefit of utilizing AI-driven educational technologies is their capacity
to deliver immediate feedback to pupils. This enables pupils to promptly discern areas in which they
require enhancement and thereafter adapt their learning strategies accordingly. The efficacy of immediate
feedback in enhancing students' comprehension of intricate topics and elevating their academic
achievements has been well-documented.
In conclusion, this study contributes to the ongoing scholarly discourse about the impact of
artificial intelligence in the realm of education, providing a complete understanding of its multifaceted and
complex ramifications. The findings obtained from this research will offer valuable insights for educators,
policymakers, and stakeholders as they negotiate the utilization of artificial intelligence's transformative
powers while upholding the core values and principles that underpin the field of education. The
continuous advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) integration in the field of education calls for a
meticulous and knowledgeable approach, guided by the shared objective of improving the educational
experience for current and upcoming generations.
