My Self Essay

Writing an essay on the topic of "My Self" may seem like a straightforward task, as it revolves
around a subject familiar to everyone – oneself. However, the challenge lies in striking the right
balance between self-reflection and self-promotion. Crafting an essay that provides genuine insights
into one's character, experiences, and aspirations without sounding boastful or overly humble requires
a delicate touch.

The difficulty arises from the need to navigate through personal memories, achievements, and
challenges to create a narrative that is both engaging and authentic. Finding the right words to
convey one's personality, values, and unique qualities can be a daunting task. It's not just about
listing accomplishments or detailing personal experiences; it's about presenting them in a way that
captivates the reader and leaves a lasting impression.

Moreover, there's the challenge of avoiding clichés and generic statements that fail to distinguish one
individual from another. The essay should stand out, offering a glimpse into the author's personality
that goes beyond the surface. Striking the right tone – not too formal, yet not too casual – adds
another layer of complexity.

Additionally, the fear of judgment and the vulnerability associated with self-disclosure can make the
writing process emotionally challenging. It requires a level of introspection that some may find
uncomfortable, as it involves exploring one's strengths, weaknesses, and personal growth.

In conclusion, while writing an essay on the topic of "My Self" may seem like a straightforward task,
the intricacies of striking the right balance, avoiding clichés, and presenting a unique and engaging
narrative make it a challenging endeavor. However, with careful reflection and thoughtful expression,
it is possible to create a compelling self-portrait.

Psychology and Camping at Chutes Provincial Park
Next, I will be analyzing my leisure experience at Chutes Provincial Park through a
psychological lens. More specifically I will be looking at the positive psychology
movement. Kahneman and Krueger (2006) believe that positive psychology focuses on
the well being and flourishing of individuals and communities (as quoted in Mock,
Mannell, Guttentag, 2016, pp. 41). In addition to looking at well being, positive
psychology studies human functioning (Mock et al., 2016, pp.41). My camping
experience at Chutes Provincial Park relates can be described as an experience that

teach my siblings and I about nature. Furthermore, I felt a psychological connection to
nature which enhanced my leisure experience. In my leisure experience description I

Mornings always consisted of sausages and berries which gave my family plenty of
energy to explore the vast area of Camp Chutes and the various activities such as
hiking the Twin Bridges Trail and swimming in the fine sandy beach that was tucked
in the river below the falls. My siblings and I would always run ahead on the trails
while my parents walked behind slowly and chatted. We would run as far as we could,
laughing, until our mother yelled for us to slow down and wait for her and my father to
catch up. Although the campsite had reserved areas for canoeing, my family never
owned a canoe.
However, one time I will never forget is when my family met an older man and his
wife, who offered to teach us how to paddle a canoe. After failing several attempts of
getting into the canoe, sliding into the water and going right under, coming out wet and
cold every time, I remember finally getting into the canoe and listening to the old man
as he taught my family and I tricks and techniques for paddling and steering the canoe.
By the end of it, I was a pro.
