Weekly Project: Making Summary and New Vocab
Summary:
The novel tells the story of the narrator's father, a king's son, marries his mother at fourteen,
sworn to be fruitful. The groom discovers the bride's simple nature at the wedding, revealing her
stupidity. After delivery, the narrator becomes a disappointment due to his small size, lack of strength,
and singing abilities. At five, his father hosts the finest games, attracting men from Thessaly and
Sparta, resulting in gold wealth and a twenty-day labor effort. The narrator and his father admire
Peleus, who crowns their son with a garland, despite their small kingdom and rumored goddess wife.
The narrator recalls scattered memories of his mother, including her love for the sea and scar from a
sword attack. He is grateful for the memories he has, but cannot remember the beach or coastline
since then.
