 Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) was one of the most influential Italian writers of the
Middle Ages and before the Renaissance. He's best know for his work "The
Decameron". After failing in his studies as a merchant and in canon law, he devoted
himself to literature. He lived in cities such as Florence and Naples and gradually
became a recognized writer. In 1350 he met Petrarch, another Italian writer who
would become a great friend and influence his life and work. Along with him,
Boccaccio formed a new philosophical and literary movement called humanism. This
way of thinking exalted the human being and human qualities.
 Geoffrey Chaucer (born c. 1342/43, London, Eng.—died Oct. 25, 1400, London),
English poet Of middle-class birth, he was a courtier, diplomat, and civil servant,
trusted by three kings in his active and varied career in the Middle Ages. He is
considered one of the most important writers in old English literature and has been
called the "father of English literature." His most famous work is "The Centerbury
Tales,", a short story in narrative poetic form. Chaucer was one of the first writers to
make significant use of standard English in his writings, which at that time were still
heavily influenced by Latin and French. His contribution to developing English as a
literary language has had a major influence on the development of the English
language and literature.
 Thomas Malory (Born c. 1393 or 1425 England Died c. 1470 or later) was an English
writer, the author of Le Morte d'Arthur, the classic English-language chronicle of the
Arthurian legend, compiled and in most cases translated from French sources. The
most popular version of Le Morte d'Arthur was published by the famed London
printer William Caxton in 1485. Much of Malory's life history is obscure, but he
identified himself as a "knight prisoner", Malory's identity has never been confirmed.
However, since modern scholars began researching his identity the most widely
accepted candidate has been Sir Thomas Malory of Newbold Revel in Warwickshire,
who was imprisoned at various times for criminal acts and possibly also for political
reasons during the Wars of the Roses.
