Subject: - Black cotton soil treatment
B/GIR/S Lowlands Livelihood Resilience project coordinate unit singned contract agreement was
with DOUBLE M GC for construction of Undulu-Gumba gravel road project for beneficiary of
Undulu woreda. It’s known that the construction of this project is progress but following the
completion of earth work in most of strechs, the contractor reported the existence of black cotton
soils at 3+280-3+600, 4+160-4+380, 5+800-6+140, 6+400-7+300 and 11+700-12+160. Since black
cotton soil is the most problematic soil for road construction, we note the consultant to assure the
existence of black cottons at specified stations and recommend sub-grade treatment based on
swelling potential of counterd black cotton soil
