CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Introduction

The policy behind the system of education in Philippine Central Island College, inthe line with the
goals of Home Economic subject under the K to 12 Basis EducationCurriculum 2019, students
should acquire knowledge skills through training in the HomeEconomic laboratory which are
relevant to self -reliance.

In accordance Epitome of national standard for higher education Section IV, thelearning
process in higher education should be interactive, holistic, integrative, scientific, contextual,
thematic, effective, and collaborative. Learning activities requirements cannot be achieved without
the ability of a lecturers, the success of learning processes will alsodepends on adequate learning
infrastructure, including laboratories.
According to Burden and Fraser, it as the total learning environment where thechild find
himself, and this include the norms of school system and the pattern ofgrouping of the learner for
learning. This is the major reason the laboratory is an integralcomponent of the learning
environment. The laboratory is a vital place senior secondaryschool student’s interpersonal and
educational development. In all, a good laboratory isessential for effective practical, learning place.
Good laboratory environment are thosewith adequate lab equipment for teaching and learning,
with driven teachers who usestandard teaching methodologies and have adequate facilities. In other
words, schoolsthat do not meet standard may not be able to provide good learning environment
for proper learning to take place.

help to improve the skill of student and will also improve the teaching of lectures.

Null hypothesis

There is significant relationship between the laboratory and the student in order to acquire skill.

Theoretical Framework

The idea of learning through scaffold instruction can be traced back to Vygotsky’s idea of the
child “Zone of proximal development .This suggest that for the student to affectively knowledge
unknown guidance and support by educator is needed in order adequately bridge the present
developmental level to the potential level of academic development.

academic performance. It will primarily involve data collection from students and teachers in selected
educational institutions offering home economics education. The study will be limited to a specific
geographical area and may not capture the full range of variations in facilities and equipment across
different contexts. Additionally, the study may face limitations in terms of sample size, data collection
methods, and generalizability of findings. However, efforts will be made to ensure the validity and
reliability of the study's results within the defined scope.
CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The review of relevant literature and studies that could be very helpful, as well as a wealth of
references and resources, are included in this chapter. The introduction of information and
communication technologies has led to significant changes in how people think and act at home, in
business, in educational institutions, and in society. This is especially true in developing nations. For
higher education institutions notably in developing countries, there has been the introduction of various
types of information systems and the creation of regulations to promote the integration of new technology
in teaching and administration of new curricula. These developments are becoming more and more
common, which means that outcomes are achieved more quickly, more effectively, and more affordably.
(Brower McKenzie, 2017)

The digital gap, which affects everyone in developing nations, presents both institutional and
personal issues that must be addressed (Uhomoibhi, J., 2015). Alternative forms of communication, such
as instructional materials, allow teachers to provide students with more engaging learning experiences.
They are a collection of resources that can be utilized to "extend the range of vicarious experience" for
students in an educational setting scenario for learning. Anyakoha (2019) states that home economics is a
skill-oriented subject that aims to provide students with self-sufficiency in survival. Dependence, work,
and compensation work. Occupational skills are best defined as the ability to use creative thinking to
guide someone toward being themselves reliant, autonomous and productive in meeting lives problems.

The reality of school laboratories in the nation, according to Awodi (2015), is that there are either
none at all or the ones that are available are unhealthy prepared. As to Eshit (2013), laboratories serve as
workspaces for scientific methods and the pursuit of novel concepts and data. According to Edem

(2016), inadequate planning and upkeep frequently result in the underutilization of existing
resources. If the nation wants to retain its current level of educational quality, there should be a sufficient
supply of skilled teachers, equipment, and instructional materials in home economics disciplines. Ozigi
(2019), in support of this fact, stated that certain school supplies are vital tools for efficient instruction
and learning they are the primary teaching instruments. Poor performance is the result of an institution
lacking in necessary equipment, which makes it unreasonable to expect it to meet its primary goal of
improving student performance.

A significant role for home economics is played by it in our school system. No academic field
includes as many useful life skills in its curriculum that will enable students to achieve regardless of the
job routes they ultimately choose. Throughout one's life, the knowledge acquired in home economics will
be beneficial. The most significant aspects of hoOn economics are that students learn topics that are
applicable to their current lives and will always be useful as they develop. It is clear that home economics
is a subject that serves as a foundation for students' skill development and proper.
CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

School who will use slovins formula that use when litte is known about the behavior of a known
population (Magulod 20218)to solve the sampling size ,the researcher will use the formula.

n=____N____ =_______199_______ = 100

(1+Ne²). (1+/(199)(0.05)²

Where:

n-Sampling

N-Population size

e-Margin of error

Therefore:there are 100 respondents of the study

Stratified sampling—where one samples specific proportions of individuals from various subpopulations
(strata) in the larger population—is meant to ensure that the subjects selected will be representative of the
population of interest. From: Strategy and Statistics in Clinical Trials, 2017.
