GUIDE QUESTIONS
1. Why do bits of paper attracted on the comb and stick
to it for a while? What type of electricity attracted the bits
of paper to the comb at first?

Static electricity attracts bits of paper to a comb that has

been touched with hair. The accumulation of electric
charge on an object is referred to as static electricity.
Electrons are transmitted from your hair to the comb
when you rub it against your hair. As a result, the comb
becomes negatively charged and the hair becomes
positively charged. The negatively charged comb draws
the positively charged fragments of paper because
opposite charges attract.

2. After a while, you observed that the bits of paper.

stuck on the comb eventually start to fall down. Why did it
repel quickly after it touched or stuck on the comb?

After a while, the electrons on the comb begin to spread

out uniformly across the comb's surface, reducing the
strength of the electric field around the comb and causing
the paper to be less strongly attracted. The paper may
begin to lose electrons to the comb, causing it to get a
positive charge and fall off.

3. Why is there a need to rub the comb with a piece of

cloth or through your hair? Will the comb attract the paper
if it is not rubbed with a piece of cloth first? Explain briefly.

The comb needs to be rubbed with a piece of cloth or hair

in order to transfer electrons to the comb and I give it a
negative charge. Without this charge, the comb will not be
able to attract the paper.
REINFORCEMENT AND ENRICHMENT
1. What is conduction? What is induction?

Conduction is the process of which heat energy is

transmitted through collisions between neighboring
atoms or facts to give you a general rule

2. How to charge objects by conductions? Give an

example.

Charging by conduction involves the contact of a charged

object to neutral object. Suppose that a positively
charged aluminum plate is charged aluminum plate is
touched to a neutral metal sphere. The neutral metal
sphere becomes charged as the result of being contacted
by the charged aluminum plate.

3. How to charge objects by induction? Give an example.

Grounding the object. Example of this is a charged rubber

balloon. If we bring the charged balloon near the spheres,
electrons within two parts or sphere system will be
induced to move away.

4. Explain what happens to charges during conduction

and induction. Draw an illustration on how charges behave
between objects through conduction and induction.

Conduction charging involves making the physical

connection of the charged obiect to the neutral object.
