Informal Email writing

Grade 6
What should include in the introduction of an email
● Greetings
● Asking for the wellbeing of the receiver.
● Apologies for not being able to give a reply
● Taking a turn toward the question.
Greeting
To greet you can use following words
1. Hy
Eg: Hi John,
2. Hello
Eg: Hello John,
3. Dear
Eg: Dear John,
➔ Always these words will be followed by the last name of the receiver
Note: Don’t forget the comma after the name of the person.
Asking for the wellbeing of the receiver.
➔ You have to start Your email either asking about receiver’s health or wishing a
good health for the receiver.
➔ Asking for their health
◆ How are you doing?
◆ How’s things going these days?
◆ Are you fit?
◆ Are you healthy?
➔ Wishing a good health
◆ I hope you are doing well
◆ I hope you are having a healthy life.
◆ I wish you are fine.

NOTE: YOU Don’t have to write both. You can either choose wishing or asking.
Apologies for not being able to give a reply
➔ You have ask for forgiveness for something
➔ After asking for an apology you have to write the reason
➔ Ways to ask apology
◆ I am sorry for not replying to your last email.
◆ Apologies for not being touch with you for a long time.
➔ Ways to write reason
◆ I was busy studying for board exams.
◆ Last week my mom was admitted at the hospital.
◆ I was out of town for about a week

NOTE: You can either reason first and follow the apology or vice versa.
NOTE: This is an optional part.

Example
You have recently visited to a music concert in your town. Write an email to a
friend who lives in abroad telling about the concert.

Hi Mike,

I wish you are having such a great day. I’m really sorry I couldn’t reply to
your last email. My mom was admitted at the hospital has to spent whole week
their. Guess what last month end I got a chance to attend one of the biggest music
festival in our town.
