TITLE: Factors Affecting the Development and Proficiency in the Four Macro Skills in English
Among English Learners
I. Introduction
The English language is the most spoken language in the world and one of the most
popular languages to learn (Wilson, 2016). English as a second language is frequently used in the
Philippines for important goods and in formal settings, including school. The English language is
composed of four macro-skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking (Dela Cruz et. Al., 2017).

II. Background of the Study

The researcher believes that the daily activities of the students directly and indirectly
affect the development of their productive macro skills in English language. These activities
include the lack of reading comprehension, not a fan of reading books, lack of knowledge about
vocabulary words, and not listening to any English teachers or not a fan of gaining knowledge
through listening, and others, which in return might affect their speaking and writing skills.
Therefore, this study aimed to examine the influence of the said factors and to what extent each
factor affects the productive macro skills of the students.

III. Objectives
 To identify the factors that can affect the development of productive macro skills in
English among English Learners
 To analyze the factors affecting the development of productive macro skills in English
among English Learners.
 To determine the mean level of the students’ productive macro skills in English in terms
of: speaking and writing skills.
IV. Significance/ Rationale

Students. They can benefit from this study in a way that they will know how to develop their
macro skills that should be expected in learning a specific skill in English subject.

Teachers. They will be inspired to make their teaching effectively and enhance students macro
skills.

V. Methodology
This study used descriptive research design to identify the factors affecting the development
of the productive macro skills in English. The subject of the study were the selected English Learners
from Alpha Centauri Educational System INC. This study will be conducted in Alpha Centauri
Educational System INC at Brgy. Ilayang Dupay, Lucena City. This location was chosen because the
researchers are also studying in Alpha Centauri Educational System INC and the collection of data
will be easily gathered
