ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Trains to Orpington depart every 20 minutes from Charing Cross, Waterloo East and
London Bridge. A return ticket costs around £7 and as long as you travel outside of peak
hours you should have no problem with taking your bike onto the train.

Orpington itself has a fairly large town centre with all the amenities you could need.
There are a couple of bike shops on the high street if there is anything you have
forgotten. To reach the high street simply head left out of the train station and continue
until you see the Tesco superstore where you need to again turn left shortly after.

The first section of the ride takes you from Orpington train station through the quiet
town and out into the countryside. From there it is largely country lanes with the very
rare A road.

There are a couple of short climbs near the start of the route. Luckily most the hills
throughout the ride are just testing enough so as to improve ability but at the same
time remain enjoyable. As an extra I’ve included a copy of the GPS file that shows the

elevation data for anyone who will find this useful.

If hunger hits you on this ride there are plenty of pubs that you will spot along the
route. The Kings Arms down Church Lane near the village of Seal serves good typical
pub food. Bo Peep on Hewitts Road is an interesting little pub with good food and
service.
