Asia. The country is largely
mountainous, with small
valleys and narrow coastal
plains. South Korea’s climate is
characterized by a cold,
relatively dry winter and a hot,
humid summer.
SOUTH KOREAN CUISINE
Korean cuisine has evolved through centuries of social
and political change. It has different cultural dishes

Korean cuisine is largely based on rice, vegetables,


seafood and meats. Dairy (молочные продукты) is
largely absent from the traditional Korean diet.

Traditional Korean meals are named for the number of


side dishes that accompany steam-cooked short-grain
rice. Kimchi is served at nearly every meal.

The economy of South Korea is a highly

developed alongside Taiwan, Singapore,
and Hong Kong, South Korea became
known as one of the Four Asian Tigers.
Korea is one of the few countries that has
successfully transformed itself from a low-
income to a high-income economy and a
global leader in innovation and technology.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The cost of living in South Korea for
international students is generally
affordable. If you decide to stay in on-campus
student halls of residence, you can expect to
spend between KRW 500,000 (USD 400; KGS
35,000) & KRW 1,650,000 (USD 1300; KGS
115,000) per semester on accommodation. It’s
cost will vary with room size, provided
amenities and whether your student hall of
residence provides catering.

Alternatively, you can choose to rent
privately. Renting a one-bedroom flat in
South Korea will cost you an average of
KRW 450,000 (USD350; KGS 31,000) to

depending on the location, size, condition
of the flat and the type of housing.
TRANSPORTATION COST IN SOUTH
KOREA
Getting around in South Korea is a breeze,
thanks to its efficient public transportation
system. A single metro or train ticket can cost
you around $1 to $3, depending on the
distance. If you're planning on exploring the
country, a long-distance bullet train ticket
can range from $50 to $150. Taxis and car
rentals are also available, but they can add to
your transportation costs.

A visa is required for Kyrgyz passport holders visiting
South Korea for tourism and study purposes. Student
visa (D-2) can be acquired at a Korean embassy or
consulate in the applicant’s home country.
The application for student visa (D-2) requires a
number of documents like the Certificate of Admission
(CoA), Proof of Final Academic Credentials and
Financial Statement (ex. bank account, scholarship,
etc.) which serves as proof of student’s budget for
expenses while staying in Korea are needed too.

a long time to be issued, and additional
requirements may be asked of you during the
process. Hence, it is recommended that
students contact the Korean embassy or
consulate in their residing country well ahead
