The tale of Television Philo Taylor Farnsworth –
american inventor
The word originates from the greek
τῆλε [tele] and the latin word visione
• In 1927, Farnsworth discovered a
cathode ray image system and
was able to demonstrate the
world's first electronic television
transmission.
• Thus, the television was invented.
• It was a strange looking machine.
The first analog service was in New York, and
it was opened in May 1928.
The first televisions were radios with a neon
tube and a mechanical rotating disc, which
produced a very small red image.
The first high-definition service appeared in
Germany in March 1935, but it was only
available in public rooms.
One of the first major television broadcasts
was that of the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
The use of television increased enormously
after the Second World War due to
technological advances arising from the
needs of war.
How Televison has “grown”
Although radio was the most influential and
popular technological invention throughout
World War II for most people, the 1940s
was when the television was being
introduced more and more to the public for
consumption.
As a result of technology, the television has
evolved in such a way, from big box radio
with images, to flat screens, so that today
we have smart TV´s with internet
connection and various apps.
The importance of television in Culture and Communication
This machine has had a great influence in people´s
lives, because it brings them the important events
around the world and that shape eras, like:
- war news WW II
- moonlanding in 1962
