Chataigne (breadnut), is a ‘must-have’ for


Divali! They require a large growing space,
since trees can grow 12 metres wide and 20
metres high. It can be planted year-round
and bearing can start from 3 years after
planting. The colour of the fruit’s skin may
vary from pale green to greenish-yellow
when they are ripe. The fruits are oblong
with short, dull, regular spikes covering its
skin and contains several nuts which are
dark brown in colour. The flesh of immature
seeds can be curried and the mature seeds
can be boiled for consumption.
