What Is

PTAs?
are treaties that remove barriers to trade
and set rules for international commerce
between two countries or among a small
group of countries
Characteristic of PTAs

remove barriers to trade between members and


offer preferential access to markets on a reciprocal
basis
cover trade in services and investment provisions as
well as remove both tariff and non-tariff barriers to
trade
Examples of 4 categories of PTAs
Economic and monetary union (ECCU/XCD, Eurozone/EUR, Switzerland–Liechtenstein/CHF)

Economic union (CSME, EAEU, EU, GCC, Mercosur, SICA)

Positive effects
The signing and participation of PTA will have a great impact on
Vietnam's economy through the expansion of import and export markets
Import and export turnover to partner countries will increase
Strengthen and consolidate traditional markets
Opening up many potential markets on the basis of promoting relations
with important economic strategic partners.
Promoting import and export activities, raising domestic production
demand, supporting the process of renewing the growth model, and
restructuring the economy of Vietnam
Negative effects

The challenge of perfecting institutions, creating a healthy competitive


environment
The competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy and enterprises as well
as each product is still low
