What is Jihad and Explain the types and modes of Jihad?

Or
What is jihad and what Act are permissible in Jihad,What are not permissible?

Introduction:
Jihad is a holy war. The spread of islam is a religious duty upon muslim in
general.The interest of the conveys a single goal to spread the message of islam in
the whole world and to establish the supremacy of deen.Jihad in the technology of
law is use for extended ability and power in fighting in the path of god by means
of life,property,language and other than these.
Meaning of Jihad:
The word jihad is derived from an Arabic word jahed which means strive hard.
Definition of Jihad:
Al kasani:
Jihad in the technology of law is use for extended ability and power in fighting in
the path of god by means of life,property,language and other than these.
Jihad in the light of Quran:
(Surah al hajj ayat no 78)
“And the strives for Allah with the passion which is right”
Ayat no9.29
“Fight against such of those who have been given the scripture believe not in Allah
or the last day “
Jihad in the light of Hadith:
Following Hadith which supported jihad;

Holy prophet said:

“I have been commended to fight mankind until they say there is no god but Allah.”
“The reward for keeping the enemy in jihad carries more reward than carried by 70
prayers.”
Declarations of jihad:
According to Muhammadan law:
The Imam is the head of the state may declare jihad against the non muslims for the
protection of religion.
Modes of Jihad:
These are three different modes of Jiahd;
1. Jihad-BL- Mall
2. Jihad-BL-Nafs
3. Jihad-BL-Ilm
Jihad-BL-MAll:
Any person who contributes financially to launch jihad,since he himself cannot take
part physically is called Jihad-BL-Mall
Jihad-BL-Nafs:
It is to find the enemy personally and this is the best way of Jihad and preferable
to any other type of jihad.
Jihad-BL-Ilm:
If a person contributes his abilities for the protection and spreading of Islam it
is called Jihad-BL-Ilm.He can do so by means of actions,knowledge and deeds.
Types of Jihad:
Following are types of jihad;
1. Internal jihad
2. Fiqri jihad
3. Musala jihad (Dafic jihad and Iqdamic jihad)
Internal Jihad:
This is carried on against the evils that may crop within the muslim society,evil
customs and unislamic acts are serious danger to islam.
Fiqri Jihad:
This type of jihad against non muslim and disbelievers who raise objections against
islam it is the duty of muslim to let down the propoganda in the light of Quran and
Sunnah.
Musala jihad:
Islam has thought to avoid from the war as soon as possible,But if it is unavoid
able for the cause of islam it should be done for two ways
1)Dafic jihad:
When islamic state is attacked by enemies of islam jihad to defend the country is
called Dafic jihad.
2)Iqdamic jihad:
When the enemies of islam don’t stop doing the evils against the muslim then to
attack the enemy is called iqdamic jihad.

Acts forbidden in jihad:
1. Not to kill those who are not capable of fighting like women,children
and old man etc.
2. Not to kill civilians
3. Unnecessary killing in the name of jihad
4. Unnecessary destruction of harvest and trees
5. Killing of animals for the need of food it is allowed
6. Adaltory and rape of women
7. Killing of farmers is forbidden unless it is done itself defense
8. Not to attack on hospitals
 9. Not to kill prisoners of war
10. Not to kill those who are not participate in wars
Acts permissible in jihad:
Following are the act which are permissible in
Jihad
1. Killing of a person who fights against the islamic state and army
2. To take possession and destroy enemy property
3. To cut water supply of enemy
4. Used the force to get foods for islamic state and army
5. Used any types of weapons
6. To do any thing which not forbidden expressly for the sake of islam
