Activity. DAS- Conceptual Art

General Information
Modality: Individual / Team
Instructions: Make a detailed mind map on Conceptual Art and later apply said information to the
topic of your choice or to the topic you choose from the database, as inspiration to prototype your
vision of the topic.
Material: Cold ceramics, wooden rolling pin, plastic bag, paint, sponge, forks, chopsticks, wire,
aluminum, newspaper, etc. Laptop.
Keep evidence: Remember to thoroughly document every interesting step and action you take
during this activity. Upload your images or videos to your google drive folder.

Section 1.
Instructions.
a) As a group, make a detailed mental map on Conceptual
Art/Conceptualism. The concept map will be based on the
information that can be found in the “3D” Drive folder in Canvas.
Conceptual Art QUIZ.
Evidence:
b) As a team choose the topic to be addressed to represent through
Conceptualism.
It is the team's decision to choose a theme from the database that can be found in the CANVAS menu or to
choose a theme personally.

Selected topic: Animals

c) As a team, carry out a detailed investigation (30 lines minimum)

to understand the topic that was selected and that includes:
● 3 important dates
● 3 exponents and their actions
● 3 important facts to understand the topic
● APA bibliographic references

Understanding how animals feel when they are hunted is a challenging topic since
animals are unable to express their emotions in the same ways that people can.
However, there may be significant negative effects of hunting on the health and
well-being of animals.
There are important dates where animals are celebrated and commemorated such
as, the World Animal day is an international day of action for animals rights and
welfare is celebrated on October 4th, the Earth day is another celebration that
focuses on the environmental conservation on April 22nd and the National Bird day
on January 5th is dedicated to awareness of the importance of wild birds and their
conservation.

Aquatic animals (dolphins and seals) ar, domestic animals such as dogs and cats
are the ones who suffer the most from abuse today, since many times domestic
animals are abused by their own owners, there are even times that they are taken
out of their houses and abandoned in the street.
Dolphins and seals are the aquatic animals that suffer the most due to pollution, fish
suffer mistreatment thanks to the fact that many people go fishing and often kill
them.
Three important facts about animals is that:
1. 1. 65% Of Animal Abuse Is Inflicted On Dogs. Dogs are one of the most out of
control domestic animals on the planet. Man's best friend, being a popular
animal to have, is the most likely to be abused, 69 million households in the
U.S. own a dog. Because not everyone spays and neuters their dogs, there is
an overpopulation problem that leads to this abuse issue.
2. Every 60 Seconds There Is An Animal Suffering Abuse. It is estimated that
every minute there is an animal being mistreated. State laws try to prevent
this abuse and some areas of the U.S. are better than others. Don't turn a
blind eye to animal abuse if you see it. Call your local animal control if you see
suspicious behavior with people and the animals they care for.
3. In The U.S. Alone, 10 Million Animals Are Abused To Death Each Year, many
illegal animal trades create cruel environments that lead to neglect, underfed
animals, and horrific injuries.

d) Define and describe how they chose to relate Conceptualism to the theme of
their choice. Remember to establish specific details of the theme you chose, in
this way you can have a criterion / concept for Conceptual Art (8 lines
minimum)

Conceptualism is an art movement that prioritizes ideas and concepts over

traditional aesthetics. We choose to relate conceptualism to animals by representing
the haunt of animals, we would like to present the feeling of being chased to create
conscience about what animals feel. Our main concept is the pursuit of predation of
humans. For instance, a sculpture could depict a human being chased, with
exaggerated elements to emphasize the fear and urgency of the situation. Focus on
bringing out emotional responses from the audience. Make them reflect on the primal
fear and survival instincts that animals experience when they are chased. By
incorporating these elements into the conceptual art piece, the objective is to create
an engaging exploration of the feeling of being chased in the animal world.

e) Next, create a collage like brainstorming where the colors, textures,

materials and images that inspire the team are included in a visual way,
according to the concept investigated.
Section 2.
a)Next, ideate the shapes that the ceramic will have to represent the
concept developed by the team.
Make sketches that represent the concept.
2 sketches per member.
The sketch must contain:
1. Approximate measurements. (30 cm x 30 cm minimum.)
2. Brief description of the idea.
3. Color or grayscale.
4. The materials to use.

SELECTED SKETCH:

b) Next they will choose the two ideas that most adequately represent
the concept they are working on. For both skits, reflect on and justify
how they relate to the chosen concept. The justification must
include in detail the choice of size, shape, color and relationship
with the concept.

It is important to remember that the justification must be connected to

the research on the topic that they carried out in section 1.

(10 lines per idea minimum)

IDEA 1

Our project will reflect the suffering of animals, due to the mistreatment that
most of them receive. We will try to raise awareness of the reality that many
animals live to have empathy with them because they do not have a way to
say what they feel and in this way we can touch the hearts of others. We will
use different techniques and materials to make it as similar as possible to
reality and try to raise awareness in society. With our sketches we tried to
express the feelings of the animals. We would like to make a heart figure that
is made up with different animal parts but also with chains and sticks to show
how animals are mistreated. The colors that we are going to use are going to
represent the suffering through the animal's past. We would use dark colors
such as brown, red (to represent blood), dark blue, to demonstrate the
loneliness and sadness they go through.
IDEA 2

Based on the research there are different ways animals express their
feelings with negative effects on the health and well-beinf of animals. We
would like to express what animals feel of how people treat them. This idea
is based on a mix of sketches but more based on sketches number 2 from
Marifer and 1 of Juan Pablo Méndez, we would like to make up a figure of a
human with animal parts, with wounds and scars that people do because of
hunting and hitting representing a figure running away from those problems
with desperation but still hurt from the attempts of humans for killing them.
Using wire to surround the figure trying to escape and different colors
(mostly purple, brown and red) that make spectators feel the
sadness/desperation and reflect on that feeling.

Section 3.

a) Finally, it is time to prototype the pieces in cold ceramic.

Record the manufacturing process from start to finish, you can edit the video
so that it is practical to view.

The video must include:

1. Names and ID of the creators.

2. Topic.
3. Brief written justification of the project (the written justification of section 2,
subparagraph b).
4. All members must appear in the video.
5. Maximum 15 minutes long.
6. Upload the videos to the "Creative Thinking" folder in drive, individually.
7. Place the link (of one of the team members):

b) Place the 4 best photographs of the finished pieces. Each member should have
the photographs in their personal "Creative Thinking" folder.

Photos must include:

1. Correct lighting according to the concept.

2. Background according to the concept or plain.
3. Shot from different angles (side and front)
