COLOUR RENDER
ROBOTS

TASK

Colour render the robot sketches using primary,

secondary, harmonising and complementary colours.
Add cast shadow to the ground plane to at least two of
your robots.

Colour use
When using different colours, remember that:
Selecting two complementary hues (colours on
opposite sides of the colour wheel) distracts the eye,
as the colours appear to vibrate or react when viewed
together. This can create wonderful contrast, but
should be used with care.

Selecting two harmonising hues (colours that are near

each other on the colour wheel) will create harmony,
since the colours are related.
This is generally a safe choice, but these colours
together can often look a touch boring and bland.

Selecting hues with three colours between them on

the colour wheel creates contrast.

EXPERIMENT

Use different rendering techniques, both line and solid

colour shading.
Try different media, using colour pencils, both normal
and aquarelles, water and oil based paint, studio
markers, felt or fibre tipped pens, etc.
