Purpose
The purpose of this Application Note is to define the purpose and operation of the OLT
Commissioning Wizard and the Add OLT Wizard which has been added as a feature in FP28.0.

Applies To
This Application Note applies to all Tellabs OLAN products.

OLT Commissioning Wizards

The FP28.0 release has added two new Wizards to the EMS GUI that will streamline the addition of
new OLTs to the system. The two wizards significantly decrease the time to add and turn up OLTs.
In many cases ONTs can be set up to be automatically accepted into the system and added to the
system.

Two wizards have been added to the Tools menu of the EMS:

· OLT Commissioning Wizard

· Add OLT Wizard

Note: The OLT Commissioning Wizard is typically only run prior to the creation of the first OLTs. his
Wizard sets up all the default profiles to be applied going forward. If you change the default profiles
after OLTs are added, they will be affected if they are using that profile. The EMS pushes any modified
profiles to all OLTs when it detects the change.

OLT Commissioning Wizards

The OLT Commissioning Wizard is used to set up all the default profiles and settings that are
common to all OLTs. It also defines all the ONT Templates which gives the default configuration to
be applied to the ONT when it is created by the system.

The Add OLT Wizard is used for several functions. It will update all the default profiles on the OLT
so it gets the settings defined in the Commissioning Wizard. It then will define the VLAN schema
and communicate it to the OLT so that when ONTs are created, they will get the VLAN rules
applied to the ports on the ONTs. It also defines the service profiles to be applied and creates the
uplinks based on user input.

Figure 2: Wizards Menu

OLT Commissioning Wizard Menus

The OLT Commissioning allows modification of the default profiles for attributes that are common
across all OLTs. Since this changes the default profiles it would affect all OLTs that use the default
profiles. This wizard should typically ONLY be run once at the time of original commissioning of
the EMS.

The system emits a warning to remind you that this is potentially service affecting to the entire
network and care should be taken when running this wizard after the EMS commissioning.

The following features are configured in this screen:

· ONT Configuration Model – User configures for either ONT Auto Configuration or ONT
Manual Configuration. If Auto Provisioning is selected then ONTs will be auto accepted onto
the PON without having to enter the serial number. Manual configuration requires the user
to enter each serial number or use the unexpected ONT menu for adding ONTs.
· Network Policy Administration
o Use Radius 802.1x Authentication – This check box enables 802.1x port based
authentication. 802.1x authentication requires the user to authenticate to the radius
server prior to giving access to the port. A users traffic will not be allowed to pass
until successful authentication has occurred.
· End Point Management (LLDP MED)
o Asset Management – Lets the system know if LLDP will be used to discover the
information about neighbors that are attached to UNI ports via the LLDP protocol.
o VLAN Configuration – Lets the system know that LLDP will be utilized to send the
VLAN configuration to Neighbor Devices using LLDP. This is a common method to
configure VoIP phones with the VoIP VLAN ID.
· Use Sticky MAC as source - Provides a convienient way to allow the user to create new ACL
filters with sticky MAC as the source.Sticky MAC will learn the first MAC address it sees and
then use that MAC in the ACL on the port.

Equipment Profiles

OLT Commissioning Wizards

The Equipment Profiles screen will allow the user to define the Minimum and Maximum ONT ID
to be used by ONT Auto configuration. The selected range will be used to assign to ONTs when
they are discovered on the PON and ONT Auto Configuration is enabled.

The DSCP mapping Profile will define the DSCP to pbit mapping which will be applied to all ONTs.
This defines the relationship between layer 3 QoS markings on ingress and the layer 2 802.1P pbit
that will be placed into the upstream packets.

Port Profiles
This screen defines the default profile settings for all the default profiles to be used on all
Ethernet Ports

The profiles for each port are:

OLT Commissioning Wizards

· Ethernet Port Profile– Defines Phy layer settings, and Link control settings for detection
and reporting of abnormal Link Events.

· PoE Profile – Defines whether or not to enable PoE on the ports and settings for PoE. This
profile will only be applied on ONTs that support PoE.

· RSTP Profile – Defines the RSTP settings for the ONT UNI Ports.

OLT Commissioning Wizards

· ACL Profile – defines the default ACL profile that will be found on ports. The ONT Template
will define the rules/profiles to be applied to each ONT type on creation. Whenever ONT
Auto Configuration is enabled, this is used to default configure the ONT level settings. Each
ONT type can have its own settings.

Once you have run through the OLT commissioning wizard, this screen will be presented. If you
Confirm and Apply then the default profiles of all active OLTs will be updated, so this wizard
typically is only run once.

Add OLT Wizard

The Add OLT Wizard has been created to automate many tasks that previously were done
manually.

The first two screens remain unchanged in the new wizard. This Wizard makes use of the default
profiles created when the Commissioning Wizard was run.

Note: If you right click on the common tree and use Add OLT, it will not invoke the wizard and so you
will not have the benefit of the features described below.

OLT Configuration
The OLT Configuration screen has several new options that have been added.

OLT Commissioning Wizards

ONT Template – The ONT template allows the user to pick the template to be applied to all ONTs.
The template is a list of ONT types and configuration rules to be applied to the ONTs. Typically the
default profile will be used for all OLTs, but the template concept allows different templates to be
created and selected. Users can apply their own settings and upon creation of an ONT of the
specified type, the template attributes are applied.

PON Profile – This menu allows the user to define what PON profile will be applied to the PONs
within the OLT at the time of PON card creation.

ONT Port Service Configuration

The ONT Port Service Configuration screen allows the user to define VLAN rules to be applied to
the ONTs at creation time.

OLT Commissioning Wizards

In general you can create rules that put VLANs on specific numbered ports, every other port, or
some pattern of ports. This is then applied to the ONT automatically upon creation. The user in
most cases does not have to do any VLAN configuration.

· Service To Provide – Services that are to be automatically configured by the system on

every ONT.
· Data - Data services will be configured on all ONTs.
· VoIP – External VoIP phones will be attached to the system and will be automatically
configured.
· ONT SIP ATA – Some ONTs have built in SIP ATAs which can be pre configured to minimize
manual configuration.
· On ONT – Which ports to configure the data vlans on.
· Odd Ports – Only configure the data VLAN onto odd numbered ports on the ONT.

© 2023,Tellabs Enterprise, Inc. All rights reserved. Page 15 of 21

OLT Commissioning Wizards

· Even Ports – Only configure the data VLAN onto even numbered ports on the ONT.
· All Ports – Configure all of the ONT ports to be on the data VLAN.
· Port Range – Allows the user to specify a range or collection of ports for the service to be
applied to. It supports ranging and lists of ports. Ranges are specified as x-y where x is the
starting port in the range and y is the ending port in the range. A comma separated list can
be used to specify individual ports. (example 1-4,10,20-23)
· Starting VLAN ID – The starting VLAN ID to be assigned for the Data Ports. The Increment
defines what to increment the value of the VLAN ID. The scope defines at what scope the
VLAN ID is incremented.
· Per PON Port – The VLAN ID will be incremented on each PON port so that each PON port
is on a different VLAN ID.
· Per PON Card – The VLAN ID will be incremented on each card slot. All PON ports on a slot
will have the same data VLAN ID but will be different on each slot.
· Per OLT – Only a single data VLAN ID will be used for all data services on the whole OLT.
· Increment – Defines the increment to be used when skipping to the next port to be
provisioned. For example an increment of 2 increment the VLAN ID by two each time you go
to the next PON Port, or Card depending on what was selected in the previous option. The
example above starts with a Data VLAN of 20, and increments by 10 on every PON card. In
this configuration, slot 1 would have VLAN 20, slot 2 VLAN 30, slot 3 VLAN 40, and so on.
· ONT SIP ATA – This section is preserved from the existing Add OLT and is used to configure
static IP addresses when in VGW mode. The EMS is given a pool of IPs to assign and they
are automatically assigned to the ONTs when they are needed.

Data Profile
The data profile defines the service profile for this OLT and a service profile is created for Data,
and VoIP phones if they are enabled. There are no differences from normal service profiles. This
screen just specifies the default settings for Data VLANs. A service profile for every VLAN will be
created and applied to the appropriate ONT Ports.

The OLT Port Template shows the set of port profiles that will be applied and the generated rules
for doing so. This is not editable and is simply shown to let the user see the results of the wizard.

Uplink Interface Configuration

The uplink interface configuration screen was added to simplify the creation of the uplinks. The
uplinks connect the Tellabs OLT to other systems via uplink ports on the ESU faceplate.

OLT Commissioning Wizards

· Single Homed – If the system is set for single homed, the system will configure only one
uplink for the data service. The VLANs for data, management and 3rdparty VoIP phones will
be configured on the single uplink interface unless modified by the Additional Interface
settings.
· Dual Homed – If the system is set for dual homed, an additional uplink interface will be
created to allow the data service to be dual homed to two routers. This provides a
protected path for the data into the network which will be managed via RSTP. The VLANs
for data, management and 3rd party VoIP phones will be configured on both of the uplink
interfaces unless modified by the Additional Interface settings.
· Additional Interface - Add an additional interface to the uplink.
· Out of Band Mgmt – This setting allows the management to be placed on a separate
Uplink Interface with no other services on that interface. The interface name of the
management interface will always be NET1.
· Dedicated VoIP – This setting will place the VoIP VLAN for 3rdparty VoIP phones on a
separate interface and keep the voice traffic isolated from data and management.
· User Label – Defines the user label to be associated with the Data interface.
· Uplink Default VLAN – The default untagged vlan or PVID to apply to the Data Uplink
interface. If the Default VLAN is set to 1, untagged traffic will not be accepted.

· Enable LACP – Enables or disables Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) on the data
interface. LACP configuration must match the configuration on the far end equipment or
data will not flow.
· LACP Mode – If the LACP mode is set to passive then the system will wait for the far end to
initiate the LACP protocol exchange. The system will remain compatible with systems that
are not using LACP on the far end and will adapt. If LACP mode is set to Active then the
other end of the link must support LACP and have it turned on.
· LACP Timer – This determines how long a link must be non-functional before LACP
removes it from the LAG. The short timeout is set to three seconds; the long timeout is set
to 90 seconds.
· Available Links – The list of links that are currently not in use and available to be added to
the uplink interface.
· Selected Links – The links that will be used for this interface and VLANs will be associated
to.
· ACL Mode – Allows the configuration of the default ACL mode for all VLANs that will be
configured by this dialog. Can be one of the following:
o Disable All ACLs – No ACLs will be used on this VLAN.
o Basic ACL Default Deny – The default policy on this VLAN will be to drop all traffic on
the VLAN and ACLs must be used to allow traffic on this VLAN. Only basic ACLs are
expected on this VLAN.
o Extended ACL Default Deny – The default policy on this VLAN will be to drop all
traffic on the VLAN and ACLs must be used to allow specific types of traffic on this
VLAN. Basic and Extended ACLs will be used on this VLAN.
o Extended ACL Default Permit – The default policy on this VLAN will be to allow all
traffic on the VLAN and ACLs will be used to deny specific traffic on this VLAN.
· Bridge Type – This will determine the bridge type used for this VLAN. The default is full
bridge.

Summary
The new OLT Commissioning Wizard is a great new addition that allows the user to prep the
system with all the appropriate profiles and templates in one single action. The new Add OLT
Wizard automates creation of VLANs, profiles, and uplinks. This combined with the Auto ONT
Configuration, default templates and profiles, it is now possible to have true touchless
provisioning of an ONT on install. The ONT will be automatically accepted, configured, and the
ports configured without manual intervention.
