❖ Survey Results:

➢ Summary of Result:
After examining the survey’s results, I have concluded that the average total
amount of tracks that my peers owns varies from 16 to 17 tracks. Amongst those:
1. The average amount of tracks that they got for free: 9 tracks
2. The average amount of tracks that they got from their family or friends: 1 track
3. The average amount of tracks that they ripped from a CD: 2 tracks
4. The average amount of tracks that they purchased online: 7 tracks

➢Data Analysis:

My curiosity about the types of intellectual property that are prevalent in my

society was piqued by the lectures on the various topics shown in week 5 . The survey I
have conducted is based on a study of how musical tracks are retrieved in my
community. Despite the popularity of the music industry in Cambodia, the cases of
piracy and unauthorized sales are still a very common issue. After re-evaluating the
results from this survey, I have concluded that most of my peers tend to own tracks in
the form of CDs and virtual playlists.

The average amound of tracks that they tend to own varies from 16 to 17 tracks.
However, I find it surprising that most of these tracks are either illegally retrieved from
the internet or purchased through unauthorized sales.Although it is widely
acknowledged that property rights play a significant role in the music industry, there are
still numerous areas in which Cambodia's property laws are not properly implemented.
Based on the provided statistics, the average number of tracks that my peers were
given for free came to a total of roughly nine tracks. The majority of them also
mentioned that, in spite of the copyright claims, the majority of the well-known songs are
freely accessible to the general public online.

The average number of tracks that my peers received from friends or family was,
surprisingly, only one or two, which is less than the others. New trends also have an
impact on society as a result of modernization. This is the exact reason why some
members of the younger generation have different musical tastes than their family
members. Furthermore, based on the chart data gathered from my colleagues, we were
able to deduce that the average number of tracks that were extracted or ripped from
CDs was a mere 2. It should come as no surprise given how outdated and seldom used
CDs are these days. Ultimately, the average number of tunes that my classmates had
bought online came to seven out of the remaining recordings. It was also observed that
the majority of them were acquired through authorized sales and other streaming
services.
In conclusion, the chart above portrays a recorded data that was based on the
different types of methods that were used to retrieve musica tracks by my peers. It was
also shown that, despite the existence of copyright and intellectual property laws, the
case of piracy and unauthorized sales are very common in my community.

➢Discussion:
In my humble viewpoint, the idea of fair use is essential to guaranteeing both the
protection of intellectual property and equality of usage. Strict laws should be implemented by
the government to protect intellectual property in society. Even though the general society have
the "absolute right" to act on their own accords, citizens should understand the importance of
respecting the original works and productions of others, just as they expect others to respect
them. This goes for intellectual property owned by various parties in various sectors of society.
