Opinion Essay
Structure
Paragraph 1- Introduction
• Sentence 1- Paraphrase Question (say the same thing, but in a different way)
• Sentence 2- Thesis Statement (state your opinion – do you agree or disagree? )
• Sentence 3- Outline Statement (say what you will write about in your 2 body
paragraphs)
Main body:
Paragraph 2 – first main idea
• Sentence 1- Topic Sentence (summary of your first idea)
• Sentence 2- Explain Topic Sentence (expand on your point)
• Sentence 3- Example
Paragraph 3 - second main idea
• Sentence 1- Topic Sentence (summary of your second idea)
• Sentence 2- Explain Topic Sentence (expand on your point)
• Sentence 3- Example
Paragraph 4- Conclusion
• Summarise your two main ideas and say your opinion again (no new
information here!!)
The Question:
Having many different languages makes it
difficult for people of different nationalities to
communicate with each other. It would be
better if there was only one language in the
world.

Look at the question and underline the key words. This will help
you answer the question correctly.

Having many different languages makes it difficult
for people of different nationalities to communicate
with each other. It would be better if there was only
one language in the world.
It is said that having a vast amount of different languages
makes it hard for people around the world to communicate
with each other and that it would be more beneficial if
everyone in the world used the same language.
