(BasedonMatthew26:57-68;27:15-26;Luke23:1-11)

TheLordJesuswasbroughttothehouseofCaiaphas,thehighpriest.Whenthechief
priests and the whole council tried to find false evidence against Jesus to putHim
to death, they could not find any. Then, two men came forward and accusedJesus
of saying that He would destroy the temple and build it in three days.
WhenJesuswasaskedaboutthisaccusation,Hekeptquiet.
ThehighpriesttoldJesus,“TellusifYouaretheChrist,theSonofGod.”Jesussaid to
him, “You have said it yourself.” Hearing this, the high priest tore his clothesin his
anger and accused Jesus of blasphemy or of saying things that insult God.That
was what the people also thought and so, they said that Jesus must die.
TheyspatinHisface,beatHim,slappedHim,andmockedHim.
Then,theytookJesustoPilate,aRomangovernor.But,Pilatesaidthathesawno reason to
accuse or judge Jesus. So when Pilate found out that Jesus was
fromGalilee,hesentHimtoHerod.
There, Herod asked Jesus many questions hoping to see Him perform
somemiracle.ButJesusgavenoanswer.Andwhilethechiefpriestsandscribescontinue
d accusing Jesus, Herod and his soldiers despised and mocked Him.
TheyputafinerobeonHimandsentHimbacktoPilate.
For the second time, Pilate told again the Jews that he could not find any
faultin Jesus.So, to free Jesus, Pilate thought of doing the custom of the governor
toreleaseaprisonerateveryPassoverFestival.
At that time, there was a prisoner named Barabbas. Pilate asked the
crowdwhom between Barabbas and Jesus they wished to be freed. Meanwhile,
Pilate’swife sent him a message that said: “Have nothing to do with that innocent
man.”However, the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd, so the people
choseBarabbastobefreed.RegardingJesus,theyyelled,“NailHimtoacross!”
Pilatesawthattherewasnothinghecoulddo about it anymore. Thus,
hewashedhishandsbeforethecrowdtoshowthathedidnotwanttotakeresponsibilityforth
edeathofChristbecauseHecommittednosin.ThenhesetBarabbasfree,buthadJesuswhipp
edandthenhandedHimovertothepeopletobecrucified.
WeshouldunderstandthatallthethingsthatourLordJesusChristwentthrough
were the fulfillment of what had been prophesied in the Holy
Scriptures.TheyalltookplacesothatwemayberedeemedbyHim.
