VEHICLE CLASS APPLICABLE TO CONVENTIONAL TOLL PLAZAS

CLASS 1 All light vehicles

HEAVY VEHICLES
CLASS 2 2 AXLES

CLASS 3 3 and 4 AXLES

CLASS 4 5 or more AXLES

Vehicle classes at conventional toll plazas are determined by the number of axles. Please refer to
Government Gazette No. 45902 of 2022 on adjusted toll tariffs as published on 11 February 2022.

DISCOUNTS
NOTE: Discounts offered at specific toll plazas for frequent users, as well as qualifying
local users still apply. Application for discounts can be made at the toll plaza offices.

REVENUE STREAM MAINTENANCE

Toll fees allow for a continuous
revenue stream provided by
those that make use of a tolled
road. Toll fees mean there will
always be funds to optimally
maintain roads, which makes
roads safer and saves money
in the long run.
Roads need to be kept in optimal condition at all times.
They deteriorate over time due to wear and tear from traffic
loading (especially trucks) and climate (rainfall and UV
radiation). The maintenance of roads is not a once-off occurrence
– it is a continuous process to ensure optimal performance.
COLLECTION OF TOLL FEES
allows us to (among others):
• Clean drains to ensure effective drainage of rainwater
• Cut grass to improve visibility and reduce the risk of veldfires
• Seal surface cracks and fix potholes
• Maintain road signs and markings
• Respond to crashes and clean up debris
• Resurface the road on a periodic basis
• Add additional lanes when required.

GAUTENG E-ROAD CUSTOMER TYPES

SANRAL ACCOUNT HOLDER
- A SANRAL account holder has payment
and communication arrangements
directly with SANRAL.
- This account holder may choose to have
an e-tag, although it is not required.
- A SANRAL account holder has a 31-day
grace period for payment of a transaction.
NON-SANRAL ACCOUNT HOLDER
- Details of the vehicle owners will be obtained
from the National Registrar (eNatis
database) and accounts will be sent to the
vehicle owners monthly. Various payment
options are available.
- A non-SANRAL account holder has a 7-day
grace period for payment of a transaction.

REVISED MONTHLY CAPS FOR GAUTENG E-ROAD COMPLIANT USERS

Monthly caps are applicable per vehicle, provided the transaction is paid within the grace period.

Vehicle classes for the Gauteng e-roads are determined by the volume.
Please refer to Government Gazette No. 45902 of 2022.

DISCOUNTS
The time-of-day discount percentages for the different vehicle classes and the early
payment discount applicable to alternate users remain unchanged.

All tariffs include VAT

The tariffs include value-added tax (VAT) as provided for in the Value-Added Tax Act, 1991
(Act No. 89 of 1991).
